Deal agreed with Bayern Munich for Leroy Sane - €60m (including add-ons)

From reports I've seen, we offered Sane approx. half of what Sterling makes with new contract. Sane did quite enough to not be that behind Sterling.

Sané spent the back half of last season either on the bench or getting bollocked full time by Pep to play the way he wanted.

He started 9 of the last 23 games last season, post Newcastle when we started playing well. 2 of those were against lower league opposition in the B team, and in 1/3 of them he was the first man taken off.

He's not getting even close to Sterling's wages when he's not even in the starting XI.

I think Sané's injury and general frustration with our play this seasons has made people forget how badly he was playing before his injury and the constant sulking and the bollockings from Pep on the sideline.

The chink of light (for those who want Sane to stay) is that this Bayern side is not very good. They have 24 points from 14 games in what I think is a weak league, and sit 7th although they are only 1 point off 4th. They are very reliant on Lewandowski for goals. He scores half their goals. He is 31. Looking at their squad, they don't need wide players. If they do pursue Sane he may look at them and conclude he can do a lot better.

When was he sulking? I've never witnessed it once!

Sterling is currently consistently playing as bad as Sané ever has in individual bad games (he's never had a poor run of games) yet we're thinking of offering Sterling another new contract. I'm hoping it's poor form but he looks like he's gone backwards. Offensively he looks like he did 3-4 years ago and his intense defensive game has disappeared. When Sané doesn't track back once it's a talking point on here and apparently shows Sané doesn't have what it takes. And Pep doesn't help with that because he'll go mad at him on the sideline but how many times has he gone mad at everyone on the sideline this season when we just stroll around letting the opposition run at our defence at will? Sterling has barely done any defensive work in our own half for ages. He was nowhere to be seen helping a struggling Angelino out the other day. If that was Sané he'd have been hammered for it.

We had a winning team last season and we didn't need to change the team that were in a really good flow, that's the main reason for Sané's lack of game time in the run-in. We had to win every game so it's a risk to change a winning side.

Realistically, while Sterling has [previously shown] a better work ethic; Sané is technically better, more skillful, has a better shot and generally has more variety to his game. Both of them show similar goal+assist contributions because of their contrasting qualities.

I would agree on a lot of what you say, but I also trust Pep and the German national coach's opinion.

Both have publicly questioned his attitude, something I have not seen in Sane, but we don't get to work with the guy day in day out.

What I do know is that Sane is a wonderful player when in form and full flight and has the natural ability to be a world great, but the later is up to him and him alone.

I wouldn’t say Sane sulked but his body language and demeanour can be ‘off’ sometimes and on those occasions you may as well hook him immediately. Granted those occasions were few and far between but there were occasions when he didn’t look dialled in. That said ~pep is incredibly hard on him - gesturing etc.

To be fair he never had the death stare that Mendy got after one of his crosses smashed someone in the chops in a seat on the opposite side of the pitch a couple of weeks ago

Pep is hard on him for a reason.Pep is in charge and trying to improve his special talents.
Nothing else in it.
He lost his form at the end of last season
All Leroys doing.Nothing to do with Pep.

Bayern Munich are ‘optimistic’ about signing Leroy Sane next summer. Intermediary Giovanni Branchini is ‘pulling the strings behind the scenes’ to try and get a deal at ‘less than €100m’.

Thats my worry, 80-90m euros for him is a really great price. For Bayern.

On the other side if we get a replacement, they will know we can spend big on it after selling Sane and probably will charge us the same 80m euros or more and it might not even be someone as good with as much potential like Sane.

Txiki really has to be clever here, very clever.

Can't see us getting more than 80m now, which for Bayern is a bargain.
