I think thats true, but teams had set us a puzzle we were stumbling to work out by sitting around the a packed area we were finding it difficult to play through and the refusal to come out meant they didn’t tire as much. While we had extra space on the wings the make up of our team ,short, left if difficult to cross.
It’s so long since I saw us play now I have a memory of later games with Mendy and giving KDB more freedom and an improved Mahrez we had worked it out but it’s all a bit hazy now, but have no doubt Pep will have come up with a plan for the games left and next season Sane or no Sane, like for like replacement or not.
Personally I think we were struggling to work it out because of the lack of width, we were too slow in the build-up due to Laporte's injury but the main issue was because we were too narrow with Sterling cutting in from the left and Mahrez doing the same in the right, in my opinion. Sane, I think would have made the difference, even just as a different option, he creates fear in opponents that make them change tactics just to counter him.

Liverpool manage to create the width with their fullbacks but I don't think it'll be long before someone works out a plan. A few have managed it this season but old United style first goal assistance (e.g. fortunate decision or fortunate goalkeeping errors) have given them a helping hand on most of those occasions, that fortune can't last forever.

I hope you're right with the last bit, pretty confident you will be. We're lucky to have him.

Wrong! Sterling works harder and cares about the team .
I never said Sterling doesn't work hard.
But during a lot of attacks he tries to dribble past players and loses it after the team has passed it and kept possession for circa 10 minutes.
It seemed to be happening even more this season when he has been out of form.
I always think if de bruyne is playing Sane is very effective.
I also think Sane has more confidence in front of goal and if he gets chance will usually score.
I do agree however that's Sterling works harder but for me is more frustrating.

I agree that Leroy seems to have more confidence but Raheem scores a lot of goals. I think he is a better overall player, despite the uneasy feeling I get with him.

There is something missing with Leroy. Likely the fact he doesn’t want to be here.

Somewhat true for Sterling, but not quite for Mahrez. Mahrez holds his width on the touchline until he gets the ball. Even when he gets the ball initially, the space opens up on the inside for Kev to make an underlapping run into where Mahrez can pass to him and he can make a cross. That's the width and if timed correctly it has the same effect of a winger getting around the outside and putting in a cross. When Mahrez goes inside with the ball, Kev holds wide to be an outlet to make a cross from a wider area.

See I tend to disagree somewhat; he does stay wide to receive the ball sometimes but there's plenty of occasions where you really can say "FFS Mahrez" because he's drifted inside. It's probably me not articulating it well enough, I meant more when he's actually in possession, you know 9/10 he's going inside onto his left foot because he doesn't trust his right foot down the outside. That's what kills us in terms of width, there's no threat to the defender of Mahrez doing him down the line and crossing it, so the defender can stay compact and not worry about blocking the crosses because they happen so infrequently.

He's so predictable it's untrue, as long as a defender is athletic, even as a none league player, Mahrez is easy to play against tactically. If he gets space and gets you 1v1 you're fucked because technically he's got the all the tricks but in a team game, you can just show him down the line in full knowledge 9/10 he'll try to pass backwards or inside because he's out of ideas.

De Bruyne helps him massively but still he can't make that underlapping run all the time or that becomes predictable too.
