it’s easy to dwell too much on players’ occasional flashes of brilliance (free kick vs bournemouth) and still more occasional low-points (penalty miss against liverpool).

but compared with sane there’s a general lack of urgency to mahrez’s game which slows down our attacks, and is the last thing we need against packed defences.

also, wasn’t his goal against tottenham a tap-in?
Tap in's don't count then, that shows a misunderstanding of football, you have to be in the right position, using their intellegence to be in the best place to score

Also no-one is replacing sergio,he has 2 more seasons

see above. his run for that goal was hardly inspired.

apologies, i'm an idiot. was thinking of silva's contract. just as well, gives jesus an extra season to show he's good enough to lead the line.

Once again, people are bring Mahrez into this thread. And it's not right. The guy a few pages back suggested a fall-out behind the scenes and people laugh that off, but it's been happening in public for quite a while and I'd question Pep if he didn't have an issue with part of Sane's application. He knows what Sane needs to do to reach the heights but he needs him to be onboard and that means listening and applying himself 100%. We have a team of captains - of all of our attacking players, he's the player you'd turn to last at the moment, especially with the contract stalling.

My brief memory of Sane and why he might not be offered what other players are:

2017/18 preseason - iirc he spent a lot of time partying in LA and then this:

2018/19 preseason - iir he became a dad in the summer but then came this after Germany left him out too:

2019/20 preseason:
Started under a cloud of contract negotitations and of course Bayern *f**king' Munich are all over him.

So there we have it. A player that has the talent but Germany and City have had what I'd call minor issues with him. Pep can't save him either, it has to be the player himself. Aguero looked on his way out and HE changed for the team. Look at him now, possibly the best Sergio we've had.

I wan't him to sign, to knuckle down and be a world beater - He's got time on his side so if he signs, I want to see a slightly more agressive Leroy who leads and is an example to the squad.

See also Sterling.

I'll be looking this season for Stones and Mahrez to take more responsibility too. Focus is on Sane because of Bayern officials speaking continually about our player as if he was a future Bayern Munich player.

And I have full faith those players (like Stones/Mahrez/Walker) know their responsibilty too.
If we get to end of transfer window and Sane hasn't signed a new contract/or been transferred, Pep becomes the focus after that everytime he picks and XI and people will read Sane's body language in every little thing he does. We could do without that distraction. This isn't good for the team.

hear what you’re saying.

you’re right, rest of our forwards (without exception) have great attitudes, and sane’s leaves a bit to be desired.

but when sane has played, he’s usually played really well. enough to be a first team regular imo.

it’s almost entirely speculation on both our parts, but my hunch is he was dropped purely for footballing reasons, and the attitude worsened as a result. not that he was dropped for having a bad attitude.

completely agree that if he shows the strength of character to stick around, apply himself and win guardiola over, he’ll be a much better player for it in future seasons.

From media accounts, you mean. Which all of a sudden are to be believed without doubt.
Which is funny considering most accuse them of spouting bollocks, most of the time.
They do spout bollocks most of the time but not all the time as the club do leak things. Its been repeated by various sources than the club will sell for £100m. In fact it was even mentioned yesterday during the game. It could well be bollocks but the fact he hasn't renewed his contract and Pep has said its out of our hands (when it clearly is not the case) makes me wonder whether there is any truth in it. For what its worth I hope he stays.

One source is then repeated, the bayern mouthpiece most of the time,he is saying it's inevitable today but everyone in germany is desperate so until we say it's happening it's not for sure,i'm guessing we'll know this week otherwise we start the season and we wouldn't let it detract from that
