Declan Rice

The squad needs an overhaul to keep things fresh. As it stands we've signed an average footballer in Kovacic who is nowhere near Gundogan's level.

We need an elite midfielder in the middle of the park.

I think Gvardiol will be excellent, but the squad needs to shake more. We have two summers of Pep left, we can't leave the next guy with an ageing squad that needs surgery.
And you know this how, exactly?

We have Rodri 'in the middle of the park' arguably the most 'elite midfielder' of his type.

The wank posts on this thread are mind-blowing!

Not a scooby now mate.

Was told for months Rice was a back up option to Bellingham.

I quite enjoy the fact I have nothing more!

If Frenkie wants to call, I'm up for that!

Maybe these two are genuinely our only targets for the other central midfield role and we'll recruit elsewhere.

Hopefully not I'd rather get one central midfielder but we need to make sure they fit our profile more than anything.

Us fans need to remember we still have good versatility Kovacic replaced Gundogan and Pep will not accept a second rate player in midfield, he'd 100% rather develop a youth player to than accept someone he doesn't feel fits in.

My dream would be one of Kimmich or Valverde or Barella but the first two seem very unrealistic despite rumours, Barella is seen as somebody who doesn't want to leave Italy like most Italians wherever that's come from... If that's a lie and he's be up for it I'd like us to look into a Barella and Chiesa double swoop on Serie A.

People need to remember when we didn't get Kane our only target that summer we said sack it we'll wait, although there's potentially other alternatives I wouldn't be totally surprised if we just bide our time.

For those asking what type of player Gabri Viega is…

He’s right footed and plays predominantly from the right of midfield. His attacking ability his more impressive than his defensive ability. He’s a completely different player to Declan Rice or Gundogan. In fact he’s quite different from anything we’re used to. He reminds me more of Foden when he plays in midfield.

Compared with all midfielders in Europe this is how he fairs.

Strengths

- In the top 99 percentile for goals scored

- In the top 98 for shots

- In the top 90 for progressive caries

- In the top 90 for take ons

- In the top 90 for touches

- In the top 80 for assists

- In the top 75 for progressive passes received

- In the top 75 for shot creating actions

Weaknesses

- In the bottom 3 for passes attempted

- In the bottom 10 for successful passes

- In the bottom 30 for tackles

- In the bottom 32 for interceptions

Its fair to say he’s no way near the finished article. Pep would have his work cut out in developing areas of his game that we need him to excel in. If he could develop in those areas, he could be a top midfielder. I struggle to see him making a huge impact from the off though and if we sign him, I think he would be more of a good squad player to begin with. But overall, I do get a good feeling about this guy, I for one hope it happens.
So basically an attacking player and a very good one.

Good info. Thanks,,,
