Now for next season will we see not sure we will bring in someone to back up Rodri and why I believe Lavia will do a job.

We don’t need a “back up Rodri”, we need a player that can be in the starting XI from day one. That’s how Pep works, on Friday he said so again, like I have been saying. That’s why he works with a shorter squad than our rivals, but everyone has to be on the top level. It’s inconceivable to me that we won’t bring a DM in the summer— it’s just a matter of who that will be. Someone like Rice would definitely be up for the job; the money and whether he wants to come are the things that need to be worked out, but I think the club will bend over backwards to please Pep in this particular window and I also have a suspicion that we would love to add another England national team starter to the squad… if it’s not him, it will still be someone that in case we lose Rodri for the season, the level of the team remains the same. I’ve been saying that Pep doesn’t work with the concept of “backup to X player”

Maybe we should get Jorginho, lol. I think people here work too seriously with this assumption that he is Chelsea bound as if we can’t lure him — better shot at titles, better manager, better structure and quite frankly, probably better money. He could very well want to come.
If we try to get a younger DM, that will have to be someone tried and tested still. Hey Jude… or Gravenberch…

Some people believe the players PR machine than actually watch him.

He's bang average and has no motivation to improve it.

And some people have watched him develop ove rthe last 2 seasons into a very capable player

He may get chances, but the best for him still is to get loaned for awhile to a team that plays similarly. It’s delusional to think he will be anywhere near a first team crucial role in the next two seasons

I’d love Gundogan to extend he can play at a top level for another 2/3 years for me. Maybe though he wants a change.

You don’t replace a squad player with Rice unless you intend to make the current first choice a squad player. Otherwise it upsets the balance/harmony. Rice could not be further from what we need.

Fernandinho is an exception in the squad for leadership and historical reasons. If we didn’t have him, we would have someone that could play more games for sure, or even challenge Rodri. That’s how our squad is built

Yeha i think we do but he has one eye on retiring in germany his interviews seem to indicate. I wouldnt be shocked either way if they extend him to move the money over a longer period but still let him go for a nominal fee at the same expriy window in 18 months. Could also retire here, hes got the brains to play for a long time in this mid without having to be all action box to box.

With his managerial ambitions, we should be eyeing him for some kind of role in that department in the future. Like you said, “he’s got the brains” for that

Very good player and a really nice genuine guy. You wouldn’t mind him coming to City but not for 100 million odd which is what West Ham will be after.

I think most of the budget will go on a forward and a left back and then a cm/dm in that order.

Very possible mate in fairness. I just don’t see us being in any race for Rice, especially if we are as reported trying the sign Gundogan to a contract extension? De Bruyne, hopefully Bernardo isn’t going anywhere, Foden, Grealish already in situ?
