Forgive me if I missed it, but amongst all the excitement about Sunday's game I haven't seen much mention of Boyata's performacne. I thought he was outstanding. Every time I see this lad I see more and more ability. He's quick - and I like my centre halves quick. He's strong and good in the air. But what surprised me seeing him at fullback was that he is good on the ball too. He got forward well and his distribution was good.

I think this lad's got it all. He reminds me a lot of Micah when he was breaking into our team. If the Arsenal cockup set him back, then he looks well on his way again now.

I think he's going all the way to the top and I believe he'll be first choice centre half very soon, possibly next season. Great to see another Academy product breaking through even with our quality squad.

Hope he makes it to the top, he's good enough and would love to see an academy product make it, lets all get behind the lad and support him

I said last year that one of the reasons why i think the club was reluctant to sign David Luiz when we had a chance was because of Boyata.

People highlight his sending off far too much, Kompany made an equally rash challenge minutes later to give away a pen but nothing was said of that, look at Vidic, he made a rash challenge on Saturday to give away a pen and should of been sent off aswell.

It also wound me up when people wanted Milner or SWP to play right back which in their eyes means we must just disband the academy as there is no point.

I still think he is going to find it hard to be Kompany's partner when Lescott and Boateng are available which is why next year he should go on loan, then when he comes back at 21 in 2011/2012 season we would have not only a promising defender but one who has played regulary for a year.

Great to see him breaking through but your post is a bit OTT and I'll be astounded, but pleased, if he's first choice with Vinnie as soon as next season

You did miss it as there was plenty about him. Ranging from the" he was fantastic"( close to your thoughts) to "he did a decent job"

I certainly wouldn't go OTT about him from that performance as he was hardly tested as a defender and rarely ventured forward as I guess Mancini didn't ask him to. The one time I recall he did get forward he was lost and overran the ball. His touch generally I felt was ok and we know he can defend if needed.Sunday it really wasnt needed.

Good player , excellent prospect but let's not judge him ( or anyone else for that matter) on a 5 nil win against Sunderland who almost didnt turn up.

Be nothing without Mancini's influence

Agree 100%. Rate him very highly. Always saw a real player in him. I said the same to my brother on Sunday - about the potential to develop into a Kompany type centre half. Thought he had an excellent game. Maturity. Football brain. Composure. Tough albeit subtly. Good distribution. Can carry the ball comfortably forward. And very impressive considering he hasn't started a first team game in months, to come straight into the team and look completely unfazed.

One moment of naivity was critical against Arsenal (in a big game), but all in all, he's a hell of a talent. I'm really happy with Kompany, Lescott, Boyata and Richards as our first choice 4 defenders. I'd still love to see us sign a world class left back once and for all.

Sorry but I seriously doubt this

I do, he cost Chelsea £20m? Mancini wanted Luiz, but the board (Marwood and Cook) were hesitant on the deal and Chelsea came in and got him. Everyone at the club rates Boyata highly, Mancini included but i think BM especially thought was there any need in buying Luiz for £20m when we already had a 22 year old classy centre back in Jerome Boateng who cost £17m, and Boyata at 19 who by the time he gets to 22/23 will be a better player than Luiz at his age and £20m cheaper.

No disrespect to Ben Mee but if Boyata was Ben Mee then we would all be wearing silly wigs at the ground IMO.

Mancini has gotten everything right with Boyata, a lot of the progress Boyata has made is of course down to the player, but Mancinis ability to help great talents should not be underestimated.
