Deliberately knocked off my pushbike by angry motorist

OP - Sorry to hear what has happened to you. Sounds like you have suffered some nasty injuries there, especially if they have had to plate the collar bone. Hope you recover quickly and get back to work, life, cycling etc.

To cut to the chase, I'm a 20 year qualified PI solicitor. I'm not touting as I'm currently not practising, but I'm happy to advise you if you want to pm me.

Having read most of the posts above, I would say:-

Don't try and instruct Eversheds. They are a national commercial law firm.
Personally I wouldn't instruct Shoosmiths.
Avoid claims management companies like the plague.
Check your own insurance policies for legal expenses insurance, as it could save you the success fee deduction that goes along with no win no fee.
Try and find a good, reasonably local solicitor who specialises in RTA claims, and who is ideally is a member of the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers. I used to know someone who worked at Thorneycrofts in Macclesfield (although he's long gone from there and he was a red), but I think they are a decent outfit not too far from where you are.
With your level of injury don't try and deal with the driver's insurer yourself - it's not a bit of bent metal and whiplash.

Although it sounds like the driver is a complete cnut who deliberately injured you, don't expect the police to prosecute him for anything other than careless driving, if they even do that. However, that should not affect any civil claim you have, and as the police attended the scene you should not have any issues over obtaining the driver's details, including insurance details.

You don't need to do anything immediately about claiming. Concentrate on your recovery etc. However, sometimes initiating a claim early, especially if liability is not going to be disputed, can unlock rehab and/or early interim payments of damages for physio if you are struggling to get it on the NHS.

Good luck and as i say just pm me if you want any further advice and to chat it over.

I haven't read the thread but a very similar thing happened to me when driving through Camden Town. Broke my arm in 4 places. My witness didn't bother responding to the police requests but I still won a decent payout.

There's an odd thing that happens too us in that metal box driving - all our humanity is left outside - all our common sense is stored in the glovebox and we don blinkers like a racehorse. Some would have it that its certain drivers of certain types of car but whilst some makes or profiles of driver may be slightly over represented I'd say we are all guilty - a bit at least.

I try wherever possible to respect cyclists, motor cyclists and horse riders when out and about round here - especially on some of the narrow country roads. No skin off my nose if I have to wait behind a cycle until there is a safe place to pass and I give horses as much time and space as they need. I don't mind two wheeled traffic filterers and I do try to drive like there is a cycle lane even when there isn't one there to allow space.

Yes some abuse the privilege and jump red lights but so do car drivers - I think roads are too crowded and people too insular in their cars, too self centred and pre-occupied which results in some of these incidents occurring.

Nice one mate, Bluemoon is a great place :)
To the OP , sorry to hear about your problem with this **** of a driver.
If it was me Id be down the cop shop insisting they prosecute the twat for dangerous driving or something.
I always try to be considerate to other road users and of ten wonder why everyone cant be like that.
Anyway hope you recover soon.

Annoying neighbour has no tax on his car, I like your thinking...
They pulled a crafty one here in Oz.
Theyve done away with stickers for Tax/Registration, its all done electronically now. A lot of people thought 'I wont renew as no'one will know whether its expired'
The silly sods think no'one knows but then the computer spits out an infringement notice and Queensland Transport fine the driver $250.....theyre creaming it in apparently :)

Not a bad idea tbf, the electronic registration and database, not the fine :) I always seem to get fucking stopped for tax and insurance checks when I've paid for the renewal and haven't gotten the disc which means trips to the Garda station to prove I'm taxed and insured etc, even wound up in court a couple of years ago as I was on my way to the airport to go on holiday when they stopped me so I missed the deadline. Pain in the arse.

Yeah thats a pain, still you are a dodgy fucker :)

Its a good idea to be electronic, another thing here is 3rd party insurance is included in your Tax/Registration so as long as your car is registered (taxed) you dont need further insurance (unless you want comprehensive of course).
One drawback is 18 year old fuckwits can drive big V8 & V6 cars
