Delicious irony – UEFA set to pay a record amount to City (update P8)

Our share of the UEFA market pool dwarfs Germany and, whilst the Spanish deal is good, it is shared between 4 teams of which 3 have done well.
Well yes because (a) the other German and Spanish clubs are taking a bigger percentage of those market pools by progressing deeper into the tournament and (b) the English pool is bigger.

Cheers guys.

Doesnt hurt from the commercial interest standpoint either. Improved deals on sponsors and new ones perhaps?

It's explained by the scum winning the final in 08 or losing in 11 being their best effort while since the money rocketed the Arse haven't made it past the second round.

"This season:
€83.84M* - City (if we don’t progress past the semi-final)
€70.06M - Chelsea
€53.56M - Arsenal
€38.54M - United"

"€36.38M - Arsenal (2015 last 16)"

That's what I was referring to. They made more than Arsenal did last season despite tanking out in the CL group stage.

That's because the BT deal came in this season and dwarfed the previous market pool. Arsenal made a lot more money for this season than last season despite being even more tepid in the group stage and getting a worse hiding in the last 16 would be another way to look at it. They also secured a bigger percentage of the guaranteed pool by finishing 3rd instead of 4th. Chelsea made more money despite being just as shite for the same reasons.

To answer your original question there has been a big hike in prize money and market pool this season. All 3 of City, Chelsea and Arsenal will earn their highest amounts this year. United also benefit from it as well albeit their performance was shit.

That's what I thought, makes sense. Shows just how much more money is in the competition now.

A couple more years out of it for the rags could do them some real harm. If Spurs can maintain their position the rags might even be playing catch up to them, let alone us.

All dependent on how this season finishes. If we win tomorrow we should have a good chance of automatic qualification via 3rd, and dodging the play off in 4th.

Not really, the Premier League income dwarfs it now. You get as much money for finishing bottom of the PL as you do for winning the Champions league. Nissin noodles etc make up the difference and more between the rags and Spurs, it won't be losing the prize money that hurts them in that scenario but losing the prestige and as we've seen with the dippers over the last 6 years, that takes a while.

But in general the huge PL money is bad for Utd. It makes their mammoth Matchday income less important.

On the subject of catching up Utd, as I understand it...

If we can get top 4 we will cause Utd to lose £65m (£30m CL money, £10m euro matchday and £25m from Adidas deal) from their accounts next year

They might post £500m this year but it'll go down heavily (relatively speaking because everyone will get a boost from the PL TV money so Utd won't likely post less than £500m) the next.

Before any sponsorships or matchday increase etc. our revenue will stand at nearly £400m this year simply due to our CL campaign.

Our success in the CL this season is impeccably timed to benefit from the significantly increased UEFA Prize Pool and Market Pool. How brilliant would it be to boo the UEFA anthem in the final, go on to win it and receive c€100mil from UEFA? The ultimate “2 fingers up” to the corrupt organisation and G14 clubs who tried to stop us.

Headlines:

· already guaranteed City will receive the highest amount ever by an English team

· finish runners-up and it is likely we will be the all-time highest earners (English and rest of Europe) from the Champions League.

· If we actually win it we will pick-up c€100mil – guaranteed all-time high.

English Teams
Previous highest CL revenue in best "financial" season:

€59.93M - Chelsea (2012 winners)
€53.19M – United (2011 runners-up)
€45.85M – City (2015 last 16)
€36.38M - Arsenal (2015 last 16)
€33.95M – Liverpool (2015 group stage)

This season:
€83.84M* - City (if we don’t progress past the semi-final)
€70.06M - Chelsea
€53.56M - Arsenal
€38.54M - United

If we are runners-up our total revenue will increase to €95.68M and if we win it will be €100.18M. In both these scenarios the figures for Chelsea, Arsenal and United would drop a bit.

*Based on the best estimate of English teams sharing €145M for the Market Pool element which represents c30% of the total UEFA Market Pool for 2015/2016 of €482.9 million. The Market Pool is the part of UEFA’s TV income which is distributed according to which league the team comes from and number of matches played by a team.

European Teams
By way of comparison here are the highest revenue figures for the big European sides in their respective best “financial” season:

€89.10M* – Juventus (2015 runners-up)
€61.02M - Barcelona (2015 winners)
€57.41M – Real Madrid (2014 winners)
€56.15M – PSG (2015 last 8)
€55.04M – Bayern (2013 Winners)
€54.16M – Dortmund (2013 runners-up)
€50.04M – Atletico (2014 runners-up)

*The Juventus figure is the record high. They earnt so much more than Barcelona last season because the Italian TV deal was second only to the English deal and Juventus shared the Italian market pool with only 1 other club.
Add few change and messi in blue shirt;)

So broken down ( and for English people ;) ) that's £30m in prize money:
£10m for entering Group Stage
£4.8m for 4 Group Stage wins
£800k for 2 Group Stage draws
£4.4m for RD16
£4.8m for QF
£5.5m for SF

And £34.5m for 30% of Market Pool (BT TV Rights) due to finishing 2nd in PL last season
+ a bit (unknown) more for going at least 2 stages further than Arse, Chelsea and Utd

Overall we're currently looking at over £65m (more than double what we got last year £28.5m) AKA Pogba ;)

If we were to get to the final it would jump to over £73m, and if we were to pull it off we'd be looking at over £87m - tho that wouldn't really be on anyone's minds at that point lol

You've gone too big on the jump from runner-up to winner. Runner-up gets extra €10.5m and winner gets another €4.5m

How did Chelsea get 16.5m more that Arsenal when they both went out in the last 16?

We won't catch them next season. Maybe the year after if they miss out on top 4 again.

Chelsea were champions. There's a guaranteed pool that gets split 40:30:20:10 between 1st to 4th. Plus Chelsea got better results in the group and round of 16.

How did Chelsea get 16.5m more that Arsenal when they both went out in the last 16?

As Aguero says... Putting numbers on it, 50% of the Market Pool is €72.5 mil and is split based on previous years finishing position in the league giving:

City 30% €21.750
Chelsea 40% €29.000
Arsenal 20% €14.500
United 10% €7.250
TOTAL 100% €72.500

That accounts for 14.5m difference between Arse and Chelsea and the balance is based on results

Thanks - (and to aguero93:20)
We have a proper set of accountants on BM don't we lol

Before the europa league winners got a champs league place , the prize was year long membership to Blockbusters , a matching kettle and toaster from Argos (also available from other reputable retailers) , and a choice of cuddly toy up to the value of 5 euros.
That's not much - If you went on bullseye in 1987 you could win a tumble dryer, a hovering lawnmower, a set of cuddly toys and a twin tape ghetto blaster, all of which you could gamble against winning a fiesta 1.1 popular plus. Just consider the inflation up to now

I know they haven't exactly been good to us but personally I think its a slightly warped mentality celebrating record financial winnings, going mental at the thought of being in Milan to watch us possibly win the Champs league trophy only to continue booing the organization that runs the competition.

Tin hat on....

You don't think it'd be a good laugh booing the anthem in the final? I'd love it. If we were to win it I don't think we should boo though, maybe sing blue moon loud or something positive to do with the team.
