Demichelis

Apparently he is coached to punch at every opportunity. The reasoning is that the percentage chance of an error is less from a wayward punch than it is if the keeper spills the ball in the penalty area.
I assumed that the reason he punches so much is down to the fuck up at home to Norwich, Ever since that game he always seems to want to punch the ball rather than catch it.

Yes even with his left hand when it looks clumsy and out of control.
Twice against Villa he punched when it was heading straight into his chest, the area where goalies have padding because it is the safest place to take it.

If you look at the game as a whole - its not MDM's fault we looked like we had no idea going forward, couldn't cross a ball, couldn't score, couldn't dictate the tempo, didn't boss the midfield ect. Im not saying he had a good game at all but he isn't the reason why we were appalling and lost the game

Most players had a stinker of a game, but he definitely topped them all with a clear penalty foul, a blunder for the goal and indirect reason for Hart's injury.
I think replacing him was about the only good tactical decision from Pellegrini yesterday.

I remember reading that he wanted out last season and that he told Pellegrini he wanted to see his contact out (which at the time expired 2015) and go back to Argentina, apparently according to reports Pellegrini convinced him to sign a 1 year extension.

I think deep down Demichelis knew his legs were gone end of last season.

We can't blame MDM. If someone offered me a contract to play centre half in the PL I'd take it even if I knew my legs were gone. More fool the suckers offering it me I'd think.

I hope his nightmare final season doesn't tarnish the memories of him being a fundamental part of our title win in 2014.

That's how we should remember him.

I played a bit in goal myself in an era when punching was largely frowned upon. However, I am informed that modern thinking is that a keeper should try to punch in most situations rather than catch. As statistically they are likely to concede less goals. Don't ask me to try and justify this though particularly as I am fairly old school on the subject.
