My dentist says I have “NHS teeth”. Basically dentists were paid for each treatment so unnecessarily filled kids teeth so they could get a new Golf GTi.

Same with me. When I think back, the number of fillings I had as a kid was ridiculous. My mother was obsessed with cleaning them and general dental hygiene. I must have made someone a fortune.

How does denplan work, I’m assuming it’s not as simple as you pay every month and they cover the cost of treatment?

It is that simple. I pay £27 a month and get everything including emergency dental treatment overseas if necessary.

I pay something like £20 a month, which includes check ups, dental hygienist treatment (scale and polish) couple of times a year, x-rays if required. Have to pay some part of treatments such as crowns etc. Been a while since I have had a filling, but can't remember having to pay for them.

Pretty sure you can have certain levels with Denplan as well, so can probably tailor it as required.

Mydentist (thats the name of the company) have been talking on NHS patients my Mrs got in the reddish one.

That’s where I go. Not the Reddish one. They’re all over. I was really lucky though.

I’d not been for years and needed new false teeth. They said I’d have to go private as there’s no places on the NHS. They gave me an estimate of £1,300. Said I’d think about.

Then a few months later when I took the kids, she was asking me why I hadn’t booked in. Said I was still thinking about it. So she asks the assistant/ receptionist if they can’t slip me in on the NHS? You could tell she was pissed off being put on the spot in front of me. But she agreed and I got it all done for £319, including the initial check up and the bit where they take all the photos. And a filling for good measure. I don’t think any of those were included in their original estimate of £1,300, so really lucky.

On the wider point, dentists were free when the NHS first started up. But they were absolutely battered by millions of people who hadn’t ever been to a dentist before. It was costing them a fortune so it only lasted a few years and by the 1950s they were charging for it.

Vets really don't earn that much. It's the likes of cvs who get all the money.

Yep, same with me. Eventually had em all out and got false choppers now. Bliss after 3o years of toothaches

£41 bastard quid for 5 minute 'consultation' then another £40 quid for meds yesterday. Only went in for a booster. Bastards.
