Derek Kevan

Derek Kevan and Jimmy Murray were often referred to as the goal twins. They used to say that the best strikers hunted in pairs, and for the style in their day they were maybe not the greatest but they were certainly effective and they banged in some goals for us, with great service from Waggy on the wing.

I remember my old man taking me to a charity cricket day somewhere in Burnage on Kingsway, a City team were playing the local cricket team on a really hot sunny summers afternoon, must have been around 1964.

I remember Dad pointing out Derek Kevan who was slogging the ball all over the ground, he was the one City player I had heard of at the time so was watching awe inspired.

Probably my first dealings with City, my first footie game was Colin Bell's home debut a few years later.

Sorry to hear he has passed away.
