Derek

Re: Derek

I commented on this last time around and having seen it again my opinion hasn't changed. It's a snickering, weaselly snide at the vulnerable and not a patch on Peter Kay's Leonard.

Didn't think it was a piss take at all.

"If I'm autistic would it change me?
"No"
Would it kill me?"
"No"
Would I be a different person?
"No"
"then just leave it"

It's so blatant as to be trivial.

Compare that with Leonard's line:

'I know people think I'm odd'.

That's a line that stops the guffawing audience dead and is one of Kay's finest moments. Forget the 'Garlic Bread' shite and Paddy McGuinness, 'Leonard' is a fine piece of comedy and achieved more in half an hour than anything the slimy Gervais/Merchant duo could dream of with two series of Derek.

'What hand do you wipe your bum with?'

Re: Derek

Seriously this program was awful.

I've heard the whole "it's not supposed to be funny line" all day today, but there were tonnes of jokes in it, they just weren't funny.

Pilkington is only funny when he's candid (I.e. An Idiot Abroad - which itself has been balls after adding the dwarf), and the very fact he's exactly like he is in every program in Derek just confirms more my suspicions that Pilkington's persona has been an act all along.

Furthermore if Gervais wanted to draw attention to the living situations of the old, then fair enough, but that doesn't mean the show is suddenly good or entertaining.

Such a shame because I'm a massive Gervais fan.

Its the complete opposite and makes the 'vunerable' feel more at ease being accepted on a comedy level.

Re: Derek

Was very good IMO
I think people just don't know what they're expecting and hate it when it isn't what they wanted.

You are borderline autistic, or have a disability or are educationally disadvantaged are you then to speak with such authority.

Or are you just farting?
