Diarra - the new Bosman ruling. Fifa system unlawful

This isn't exactly as serious as the Guardian is making out. Bosman it certainly isn't.
It is simply a legal dispute after the club sacked a player and sought to recover money. He wanted to join a new club but they were worried they would be liable for the money owed so they didn't sign him.

Not quite accurate. The club couldn’t sign him without the International Transfer Certificate. Fifa refused to grant this.

My take is that if a player breaks a contract with a club fifa can't stop them joining a new club.

So players can in theory walk out on a low deal, settle in the courts, wile playing for a new club. Its something that has been speculated about, players paying their way out of a contract. This backs them uk and allowes them to do it but they would be liable for the damages to the original club. I can see it happening in a big contract dispute.
