What player is gonna admit to joining a club for the money?
Very few!
Rooney joined the rags on the pretext of them being 'trophy winners'...... yet Evertons trophy history isn't exactly a bad one , and i don't recall him lauding the rags before that fairly successful world cup he had which really brought him to their attention ?
Suddenly he's offered a whole lot of cash to join them , and off he goes ....... and in the process deserts his 'dream club' Everton!
Likewise with Mr Berbatov ...... would he have been so keen to join his 'dream club' if the rags had offered him only 'half' of the money he was on at Spurs?
No chance ...... he'd have told Fergie to sling his hook!
Ronaldo ..... twinkletoes was winning trophies at the Swamp , had no reason whatsoever to move , even said so himself a million times ....... suddenly he sees Real Madrid recruiting all the worlds top players , and probably on the worlds top wages too , and thinks well i'm having some of that ..... fuck you Manyoo!
So yes Gareth Barry has almost certainly moved here for the money ....... well that's okay providing he earns it , and that means helping this club win trophies ..... because that's the ONLY way that that any of these huge fees we've paid out on players will be justified in the watching footballing worlds eyes!

Allow me to let Fernando Torres to put a lid on this.
In this weeks Shortlist when asked whether our summer recruits joined for the money he replied, "Top players will earn top money wherever they play, so I'm sure he (Barry) joined them for the plans that they have in place".

Whilst that's true to a degree top players , such as Torres himself , will only go to the clubs who CAN pay top money , he wouldn't have been on 'top money' if he'd joined Wolves , or some club such as that ....... so if he was on £40k per week at Athletico Madrid and Liverpool offered him £90k per week , as they most probably did , then of course he's gonna come and pledge that he's only here because of their history and trophy pedigree ..... he doesn't want to be associated with the word 'greed'!
But would he have left Madrid if Liverpool had of only offered £20k per week?
No chance whatsoever ...... Liverpools history wouldn't have changed overnight , but Torres's morals almost certainly would have!
