Did CL Group D (of death) hurt our league chances?

No...

We are so far behind because of 3 main reasons.

1, Nasri is a pussy and a coward.
2, Piss poor performance away to Southampton.
3. The strikers have not been scoring enough to pick up the points in all the draws we have had.

Simple...
Point 2 is only one very small part to the whole season, 3 points of a total 114. It's really fuck all. Teams lose to teams down the bottom in many leagues, United lost at Norwich Barça have lost at Socienad, last season Madrid lost at Getafe and we lost at Sunderland (this and last season. These things happen and aren't main reasons why teams are behind in a title race.

These things happen, as dn says, in a Summer transfer window and through every game from 1-38.

Sorry, but it sounds like you're saying that dropping points isn't the reason we're behind in the title race. Shirley not?
No, I mean, not the one particular game. We've dropped points in other games too, so have United. One game equates to 2.63% of a whole season's points. Had we beaten Southa Lyon we'd still be 9 points behind United.

Of course it affects your league form - they are extremely draining games, the like of which our rivals did not play. As soon as they played Madrid you saw what happened, they gave their worst performance of the season at home to Chelsea.

We'll have the same issue again next season.
Apart from it being pointed out we were only 3 points behind rags after CL exit

Might have something with that Southampton defeat :)

We were 3 points behind after last CL game so it had f'all with it.

I still blame it on the derby. If only tevez had started :O(

dont get me started on that!when i saw mario starting i knew we would lose then when vinnie went off injured it was sealed

I'll never understand it either, and i'm glad he no longer has that option to take.

I think it was because Mario always played a blinder against them no matter what type of form he was in

I think it's fair to say his 'form' up to that point was piss poor at best. Not saying the outcome would have been different as Tevez may not have played like he did if he'd started, but I do know we would have had more of a chance to win it with him playing rather than Balotelli, infact we would have had more chance with me playing and i'm overweight, shit at football and have 2 left feet.

Better get some good players in then.
Doesn't matter who you have - the best players will be drained by games such as these

Dortmund are 20 points behind Bayern.

Dortmund only lost 3 points between end of September and end of November. They lost 9 before the CL even started - and the other points after they already had booked rank 1 in the group.

Yeah, but after the Real game at the Bernabeu you could see that the confidence had taken a bit of a battering. I think they are only just getting that confidence back again. We had some poor performances last season, so the Southampton game was just a repetition. Although the Soton game puts us much further back than we everwere last season. The European excursion this time, albeit against much stronger opposition than the previous year, knocked a tremendous amount of stuffing out of the body of the team. I think they didn't show it all that much but the mental effect of finishing bottom without a win preyed on a few minds.

i agree.it seemed to really knock their belief in their own ability. i expect them to deal with the cl much better next year.
