Did Darwin Kill God?

I was referring to the term “polytheist” :-)

If believing in one is silly, surely believing in more than one is lunacy, no?! Especially considering polytheists are, in general, location specific, just like Christians, Muslims and Jews were before migration became so easy.

To each their own, as long as it doesn’t harm others…but then that’s the problem, isn’t it?! All these “peace loving” religions murdering innocents and torturing non-believers for the sake of their deity and the land yo which they believe they have a divine right!

All a bit silly when you sit back and think about it, isn’t it, when all it really is is men controlling other men (and esp women!) based on supernatural beliefs.
The ideology of social control doesn't have to have supernatural authority - Khmer Rouge comes to mind and Nazi Germany was very keen on eugenics as I recall.

Quite recently heard in the South Sea Islands from ill- educated explorers later to become the entree of a village feast.
I wouldn’t generally consider myself to be ill educated, but I’ll be honest, I haven’t got a clue what your trying to say here, so on that basis I accept that maybe I am? Can you enlighten me please.

“Thick fuckers” probably…or something like that." I didn’t get the ‘ill educated’ bit?
Though I doubt they were quite so rude as you suggested perhaps had the explorers in question been better informed about the indigenous population's beliefs and associated sensitivities they may not have ended up in the cooking pot.

No you can't kill.what doesn't and hasn't ever existed
Perhaps the thread title should be "Did Darwin kill the story of God?"
And the answer would be a resounding "NO!!!" Religions will continue while some of them are taught using indoctrination and fear.
Give people enough shite while they are children and the seeds are sown for life. - And the afterlife of course in their minds.

Indeed…early explorers were widely regarded for their manners and progressive world views when encountering different cultures and skin colours, so probably didn’t stoop so low as to rudely question their intelligence. I’m sure the general use of the term ‘savage’ was just misunderstood banter in that respect.

Also, polytheistic cannibals who believed in lots of sky fairies are probably widely regarded for their reasonable tendencies to ignore an abundance of fresh meat, so long as the fresh meat in question was sensitive to their belief system.

I clearly need to dial back my previous criticism of those with religious beliefs. Moses clearly parted the Red Sea, Jesus was definitely born of a virgin and walked on water, and Mohammed definitely flew to heaven on a winged horse. Not sure why I’d ever doubted any of it on reflection, and consider myself lucky to not have been boiled with potatoes and cabbage before seeing the errors of my ways.
