Did Darwin Kill God?

Darwin might have killed the God of classical theism. But there is an alternative.

Couple of reviews of Philip Goff’s latest book:

Haven’t got around to reading it myself yet but the dust jacket of my copy features approving comments from Philip Pullman and Stephen Fry.
Prof Goff features in the programme I linked earlier in the thread

and my university tutor (many years ago) was the Guardian reviewer's father Peter Strawson, a very different kettle of fish from his son Galen!

do atheists count as a belief group?
It doesn’t surprise me that in the minds capable of the mental gymnastics religious folk are capable of, you consider not believing in something classes as believing something,

Do you believe the circa 3,000 gods that people thought existed at one point or another in history are real, or are you a selective atheist?

The human ability to reason has created reasons for things we either can’t currently explain or choose not to explain through logic and evidence. Sadly, over the millennia, that has come to mean the supernatural, lest we look foolish for not knowing, while creating a catch all, get out of jail free card in “God wills it.”

Life is about DNA and mutation…today. Until we gain further insights into a quantum understanding of life and our universe, I’m going to go with “No God,” even if “He” would help fill in the blanks for the currently unknown or unknowable.

Lastly, the hubris of humanity shackles us. Our belief that we are special in some way holds us back. God making us in his image is a fundamental conceit that either informs or undermines everything thereafter. I’m in the latter camp.

I think believing there is no God is a prodigious act of faith.

I'm afraid you are conflating the explanation of something (i.e. existence) with the thing you are seeking to explain.
A simple reductionist error also committed by many including popular writers like Russell, Hawking & Dawkins.

No. Where are you getting the impression the majority of death row inmates are atheists?

What religion were the dinosaurs, Johnny?
I'm not and they are not. The current naturalism v panpsychism debate focuses on the the question of to what extent an oyster is a conscious being, so if they qualify dinosaurs would seem to be definitely in scope as believers.
