Tried this numerous occasions as a kid to get off school. Hardly ever worked though, my Mum always knew if I was faking, even when I fooled teachers.

When I were a nipper there were 2 TV channels. Indeed I can remember ITV starting! There was no daytime tv, no test card either. It also went off at around 6 o'clock for an hour cos Lord Reith insisted we all eat tea free of the television.
