Did You Go Halifax Away In the FA Cup in 1980?

Yes, I believe it was my first away game, stood at the front naturally, a lot of aggro afterwards I seem to recall, can't remember it raining but that pitch and the mud.

Yes I went. It was a 2pm ko. We were back on train before everyone else’s second half had kicked off and we were out. In the ground there was a small hut selling snacks. I remember City fans surrounding it chanting ‘Soup! Soup! Soup! They then proceeded to start dismantling it

Useless but moderately interesting fact: The fella who scored the winner for them is Lee Hendrie' Dad.

Anyone remember Barnsley away early 80’s and there was a burger van at the back of the stand and it kicked off with her so she threw chip fat out at whoever was rocking her van?
Also remember going on the train to Huddersfield in the late 80’s in the fa cup, 3rd replay if memory serves me correctly, open air stand, January, middle of the week, pissed down and I thought I look cool in a cream coloured jacket. Not cream after I slipped on my arse and was full of footprints when Steve Kinsey(?) scored!!
I seem to recall a snack bar getting pillaged at Barnsley, probably the one you're on about. Barnsley fans were always up for a ruck back then.

Took some nice corrugated fencing home for Dads allotment, which a fellow Blue had kindly given me after we dismantled their ground piece by piece.

We had a wierd habit of nicking random stuff and taking it home with us in the '80s. I remember returning home with a British Rail Leicester sign from their station, it was huge. So we took a train station sign, on the train, changed to another train at Sheffield, and took it through Piccadilly train station. No-one in the train industry noticed we were carrying a 3 metre train sign until the 108 BUS driver said " is that a train sign?"

Weirdly, I moved to Leicester a couple of years later.

I seem to remember a load of Blues dressed in nicked sheepskin coats, in Blackpool? Maybe Brighton. Can't remember. Looked like a Delboy convention.

Thems was the days.

Yep I was there and it rained and rained and rained. Still got the scar from Shrewsbury the year before.
Yes, please stop bringing it up.
Shrewsbury wasn't quite as bad, at least it's not in Yorkshire.

What about Wigan in the FA Cup Final? That defeat and the whole Mancini farce eclipsed the defeats at Halifax, Shrewsbury and against Spurs in the FA Cup final.

There was 5 of us that went in my Vauxhall Chevette. Like others got absolutely soaked and covered in mud.

After the match we saw the team coming out to their team bus. I have got to say for some reason we weren’t very appreciative of the performance

It wasn’t much better at Shrewsbury either!
Reminds me of a time i went to the old Plough Lane to watch united play Wimbledon around 1990. A couple of red mates kept pestering me to go on an away trip with them so i did. 5 of us crammed into a Chevette was uncomfortable especially for me being tall with my legs poking in the back of the driver.

Got to London in a right state in body and mind as we'd been drinking since early morning. Went in the stadium and thought to myself "what the fuck am i doing here"! ? Game was boring and a quiet atmosphere so i unzipped my Harrington jacket to reveal my City shirt and bellowed out - "we are City, super City"... Well if looks could kill I'd be dead, and if it wasn't for my mates saying - "leave him, he's with us" I'd have got a good hiding. Was a good day though but i i declined other offers to go anymore aways with them.

Might have been the same game where the special was delayed because of horses on the line. Got there about 3.15 I think.

Something is telling me that the away team could have an allocation of up to 25% at cup ties in those days. Based on that there would have been around 3,000 blues but I my memory might be playing tricks with the percen

I didn't, thankfully.

I went to Halifax and the Shrewsbury game the year after. I think we got around 3000 for each game, although I do remember quite a number of blues getting marched round the pitch to our end just before the game started.
Horrible days especially Halifax

No i was 10, but felt the room close in as my dad who was a wanker villa wanna be cos he was born in Winston Green birmingham.
And my Bury supporting Grandad was a fuckin dipper lover cos he only had 3 channels on the box, makes me puke.
Give him his dues my grandads mate off Darn Hill was a massive blue who took us against Villa about 82/3 and we won

Went to both . The 0-2 defeat at Shrewsbury and the 0-1 defeat at Halifax . Had some terrible away days back then . Others that stand out for me are the 0-1 at Leeds in the FA cup 5th round in 77 and the opening day 0-2 defeat at Southampton when Keegan made his debut .
