Diego Carlos

I like the look of him - younger than Koulibaly and no AFCON obligations either. Looks like more of a warrior than Laporte and Koulibaly too, so stylistically could be the post-Kompany solution to our soft defence. If he could be gotten for circa £35m, he’d be worth the risk.

Only worry would be the fact he’d come from Sevilla, a club where mediocre players seem to perpetually peak - then decline back to their natural level once they move on for big money; filthy doping hub. Liverpool would probably be a more appropriate move for him in that regard.....

I loved The Stylistics in the day ;-)

He looks like a defender who should be in our league. Rugged with shades of Otamendi but bigger and quicker.

Hard to tell on video montages but looking at the clips of him he seems to be much better than Otamendi distribution wise. Otamendi's big issue is he takes too many touches which gives the opposition time to mark our forwards. This fella seems to be able to accurately play passes first time. Looks decent to me.

In terms of style and mentality, he plays a lot like Otamendi ( Btw I was an Otamendi fan, so I'm not complaining). He seems quicker and more athletic. Like Ota' he has a great jump and wins headers even against bigger attackers. He slides a lot and is a rough tackler. Meaning potential for Free kicks are high.

All those qualities are similar to Ota'. He also throws himself at the ball. All heart just like Ota' often does.

Went back and watched his highlights from Nantes, before the super one year in Spain. And all the Ota' traits were there too.

That said, he seems more athletic and he is clearly faster. Our passing is much more complex than anything he was doing at Nantes or Sevilla. However, his long balls seem far more exquisite and developed than Otas. I don't think he'd have a problem adjusting.

All that said, I'm still Meh about it all.

Cheers for the info - to be honest I don't know much about him.

Country mile quicker. He's rapid.
Think we could do with some proper express pace at CB tbh. Reading the game etc is great, but with the way we defend so high even the best defenders are going to get caught out from time to time. Someone with that pace to get back and recover could make a huge difference.

Couldn't agree more. I remember watching Keith Curle bail himself and the team out on numerous occasion by utilising his electric pace.

Like to think I'm relatively well-versed in other leagues and have legitimately never heard of this fella before today. If he's going to cost 60m... I think we should probably look elsewhere. Especially if Koulibaly is only another 10-15m.

He made La Liga TOTY with Jesus Navas next to him. He's very good by all accounts- but I think we'll end up going in another direction.

Lol. I did not say he wasn't better than Ota' did I? Don't exit yet.

He looks like a far better long range passer, a far more athletic and faster version. I mean the gap Between Ota and being World Class was often occupied by a lack of athletism and speed. An Otamendi with speed and athletism might just be special :)

Add judgment, position sense, 1-on-1 ability, passing ability and you might have a point
