Diego Maradona

Fabulous talented footballer that he was, he was a cheat more than just the once against england, sad for his family, but he'd had enough warnings about his health.

The greatest in my lifetime, incredible talent, personality and iconic as is humanly possible.

RIP and thank you for some wonderful moments, it was a pleasure.

I get that in Ireland but not worldwide. And as I said players cheat every single week. No difference to me when you see Mane or Salah throwing themselves on the floor to win a penalty.
Is Maradona considered a cheat worldwide, or is it just in England? And if so, I imagine the failed drug test also has something to do with it. Drug bans tend to follow you around a bit more because it's premeditated, whereas cheating in the heat of the moment is something all players do every now and then.

I've seen plenty of foreign footage over the years where he's attached to cheating just because of that goal. Henry did the same, but outside Ireland he won't be forever labelled a cheat. The failed drug test didn't help his cause but it doesn't seem to be the main reason why he's disliked or hated. I just think what he did for the game far far outweighs anything negative he did. A flawed genius.

Still cannot believe it man. I mean for me hasn't sunk in. I still play football albeit shit level. And even tho I'm right footed, always tried to model my game on his style. We all did, even though we failed. Distraught. :(

As great as Messi is he is not as good as Maradona in his prime no way. What he did at Napoli is stuff of legends, not to mention the 86 World Cup
Yeah, I think that's what elevates him above all others for me. He almost single-handedly (excuse the pun) won the World Cup in 86, and took Napoli to two Serie A titles, when they had never won it before (or since).

Sure most people have already seen it, but if not the Maradona documentary that was released last year is well worth watching:

I think Andre Villas-Boas has come out with an early contender for dumbest memorial idea -

How many world cups did that little Messi win for his country?

Messi is magnificent, Maradona was simply incredible, the pressure on the guy from even a child was incredible but he always did it.

His achievements at Napoli were stunning.
