Manchester City approach Diego Simeone with Argentine top target if Manuel Pellegrini is sacked
The Atletico Madrid boss is City's number one candidate to take over at the Etihad if they part with Pellegrini in the summer
Manchester City have made their first move for Diego Simeone - the man they are lining up if they sack Manuel Pellegrini.

And City have now stepped up their interest by sounding out Simeone, in a move that increases the pressure on Chilean Pellegrini.
The feedback from their enquiries - understood to be via intermediaries - was positive, with Simeone keen to manage in the Premier League.
Simeone has emerged as one of Europe’s top bosses after leading Atletico to last season’s La Liga title - breaking Barcelona and Real Madrid’s stranglehold on Spanish football - and also the Champions League final.
Argentinian Simeone enhanced his reputation once again by inspiring Atletico to a 4-0 win over their biggest rivals Real on Saturday.
And City are ready to move for the 44 year-old despite concerns among some at the club about his explosive management style.
What happens between now and the end of the season will help determine whether City’s interest in Simeone goes any further.
Pellegrini, 61, is unlikely to survive as City boss if he fails to win any silverware and is running out of options.
Only the two biggest trophies remain up for grabs for City and they face an uphill battle to land either of them.
City have already been dumped out of the FA Cup last month and Capital One Cup, which they won last year, in October, after shock home losses to Middlesbrough and Newcastle.
And they are now facing a tough task to retain the Premier League title after slipping seven points behind leaders Chelsea with 14 games to go and failing to win any of their last four matches.
That leaves the Champions League - and Pellegrini may have to win it to keep his job.
City face Barcelona in the last-16 after just reaching the knockout stages thanks to a 2-0 win at Roma in their final group game.
