Dinamo Zagreb (H) post match thread

Thought we played reasonably well but was a little slow in midfield at times and we didn’t get enough bodies in the box for crosses specifically the opposite winger which we score so many goals at the back post from doing and he midfield runners , Dave was in the box plenty but usually the architect, gundogan wasn’t in there enough for me.

Also thought we were too lobsided especially in the first half, we kept going down the left to the point where I forgot mahrez was even playing for a while through no fault of his own.

They were fairly compact but had nothing about them as predicted pre-match I still maintain we could have slotted in Garcia and Foden tonight for Fernandinho and gundogan with virtually zero drop off.

As for their fans, they were some of the best in terms of creating an atmosphere they literally never stopped singing all game even when we scored and they were mid song they didn’t pause so credit for that but then I take all that back instantly for their scummy behaviour.

Ripping seats up, keeping a ball that went into their end only to throw it onto the pitch 10 minutes later specifically when we were on the attack in an effort to stop play, dangling off level 2, openly smoking and drinking, pissing in cups and launching that, throwing so many coins the cleaners can probably keep Thomas Cook going for a year. People were blaming the stewards but it’s not their job. up until 75 minutes, not a single police officer were to be seen and then when they did turn up they did absolutely nothing to protect fans from a barrage of missiles. Sadly the blame lies with city, they should be ensuring our safety by having a full police cordon around the away end all game when you know things like that are likely to happen which anybody with a brain knew it would.

How the f**k did Zagreb beat Atalanta Bergamo 4-0 ?
Just home, game was a bit flat, we played half decent but wasted numerous chances. They were very poor, their fans never shut up all night, imagine their home games are lively. The ref was a typical chumps league ref, gave us next to nothing.. Sergio looked like he was chopped down to me.. nothing given.. It's going to be hard to win this I think..

We played really well. It's more likely that our finishing gets back to normal than we stop creating chances, so all is good.

Major positive is that Cancelo and Mendy got minutes. You can still see what they have to do to get to the truly desired levels, but both showcased a lot of promise.

Mendy had a shocker but Cancelo was very good.

We played far to much down the left, Mendy yes been missing but come in his crossing was so bad it was bordering on embarrassing.

Rodri once again shining light..

Pep on Gundo.

Ilkay Gundogan, you cannot believe how good he is. He's one of best signings in this Club's history.”

I love Pep but why exaggerate. He is nowhere near De Bruyne or what David Silva has been for this club. It has a lot to do with giving your players confidence but I can think of many players more important for the club. Having said that I really like Gundogan, classy on and off the pitch.

Rodri’s pass to Mahrez was just divine. What a superb player we have.
Mendy looked rusty but he will find himself eventually. Cancelo looked exciting and unpredictable, it’s like having a forward with defensive skills. Great dribbling and ball control as well.

Happy to see Foden score.

Not our best game but we will get there. Just looking at crappy Spurs tonight I find it unbelievable we handed those fckrs a Champions League final.
It’s time to win this fukking competition. We have what it takes.

I used to hate BT and cancelled my contract and told them why in the days of Owen, Ferdinand and Scholes sniggering away watching our games but they are now head and shoulders above the twats at Sky.

I know Dr Bruyne makes a lot of people look good, but him and Mahrez are so good together. They constantly make space for one another and just totally get each other. O thought he missed him tonight.

Stonewall...as was the challenge on Gundo...oh and the handball.

Have we signed Johnny Wilkinson to the coaching staff? We seem to have got leaning back and firing 10 feet over the crossbar down to a fine art.

Other than that, we played well if not a bit laboriously. Rodri continues to look amazing. He's like Yaya on the ball - he never loses it.

Delighted for Foden - composed finishing, something the others could take note of!
Maybe Pep could take note of. With Dave retiring soon and KDB injury prone, Foden should get more game time.

Just got home. Was in a different seat tonight, at the front right next to the tunnel. Interesting how you get a completely different perspective on the game pitch-side compared to my usual seat in level 2. Rodri is going to be a star. Gundogan was very involved and played really well. Mendy, oh dear. He plays like someone who has just been taught how to play football but hasn't quite got the hang of it. I wish he would be more natural and play with freedom. Maybe it's lack of game time.
Overall though quite an exciting game. Onwards and upwards.

It's crooked as fuck and exactly the reason why I have missed my first-ever Champions League home game tonight, having refused to go on the scheme again.

Well done to those Blues whose patience hadn't been stretched to the limit yet.

Three fucking nailed on penalties and this whole wanker system is being used to suit whatever it needs to fuck us over.

Rodri was excellent again.

It has wound me up for a while but we though var might mean they could stop cheating us...we should have known better!

I decided to drop it after the Spur's game last season. When three people next to me in the crowd are showing me the handball goal, seconds after it happened, then that wanker of a ref takes an age looking at it, shrugs his shoulders and gave the goal, that was me done.

Pep can say what he likes. Why should I invest time, money and emotion into something so blatantly corrupt?

Shades of shit mate, plugged Foden going on loan umpteen times, mentioned free tickets (never heard that before for any game on tv) but did laugh about the pens.

I think you're ignoring all the positives of Mendy tonight. The incisive passing inside, the crosses that worked were great, the movement off the ball, the timing of his runs, the fact he wasn't a defensive idiot and probably more. Saying he had a shocker is OTT.

We made hard work of this game , if we had gone in 5-0 up at half time the Croations couldnt have complained , the person who was in control of VAR should really be made to explain his decisions , he didnt miss them , there us a far more sinister reason for refusing to give the THREE penalties. UEFA are c*nts.

Stonewall...as was the challenge on Gundo...oh and the handball.
Just seen it on TV now mate.. What's going on? I was at the game tonight but as you know you don't always see things, I missed the handball, Gundo looked 50/50.. just seen it on TV, like you say.. stonewall pen.. They don't show replays in the stadium.. there'd be f'kin riots..

Times in the first half had me wondering if Pep needs that grey cardigan back - no luck whatsoever otherwise it would have been 6 or 7

I didn’t think the gundogan one was stonewall, the other two were though.

Rather than wanting VAR to work though, I still just don’t want it at all.
