Dinamo Zagreb (H) post match thread

Mendy was OK I thought. A bit slow but much better on the ball. Scarcely misplaced a pass and he was our go to man until Sterling came on when it all changed.
Was tough for Mendy last night i thought. He got a lot of stick over his crossing but in reality when you are crossing into the box for aguero, silva, silva etc and the opposition have 8/9 men packed into the box its almost impossible. I like Zin, but i feel much more comfortable with Mendy in the side and over the next few months he will really start to get back to the levels he started at.

Game was dull. Opponents massed in all-out defence. I don't think Ederson had a save to make.

The entertainment came at the end when Sterling came on and he cut them to pieces but prior to that we were wasteful in front of goal against opponents who were limited. This is Champions League group stage football, but the latter stages are very exciting, and we are getting there.

It was a shame that the ground was not full. It takes a lot away from the occasion when there are empty seats. Dinamo fans were excellent.
Game far from dull, crowd vocal and decent turnout. You cold take a lot from the game and performance but you clearly choose not to.

Got back from game late and just logged on thinking I'd be reading posters eulogising about an excellent team performance where we hunted in packs, tackled extremely well, created opportunities every time we got the ball, worked incredibly hard throughout and didn't allow the one disappointment, finishing, to deter us.
Clearly not.

It's a funny old game. I thought we had more chances created last night in the first half than we produced versus Watford. 5-0 up after eighteen minutes in the latter. 0-0 after an hour last night. Small margins. It's just that when you get a good chance, clearly scoreable, it sticks in people's minds. How many times has Sergio raced to goal and lobbed the keeper, and Gundog, great chance from outside the area but hits the bar, and David Silva, ON HIS LEFT FOOT, puts it wide! Another day it's 3-0.

One good thing is that so far, Mendy looks physically robust, I’m not watching him thinking he’s going to pull up with a knock.

A few more games where he gets more confident in his fitness and loses his rustiness then I think we will have a big boost to the dynamic of the team.

Did anyone see any Zagreb fans being arrested? Ripping out seats and throwing bottles into both sections of City fans and even striking riot Police yet didn’t see a single one of them carted out.

One of GMP’s finest in the full riot gear outside the ground at the end was shouted at by a few Blues asking why they didn’t do their job, and he did a crying and wiping tears motion with his face and hands.
Was in 110 right next to it. Few near misses from chairs but no sign of riot police until 72 mins despite it all kicking off in first few mins

I know Mendy got stick but getting in low crosses with six or seven men facing you isn’t easy. And high crosses aren’t generally much use for midgets v giants.

The only aspect of our game that I would really criticise was our finishing. Overall, it was a pretty mature and patient performance against mass defensive ranks.

City were stictched up without VAR (Monaco and Liverpool twice) and are now routinely being stitched up with it (Schalke, Spurs and Zagreb). A blatant handball in the box reviewed and still no penalty given (especially when Otamendi was penalised at Schalke when he had his hands behind his back and the ref reversed his original decision of no penalty even though the VAR screen wasn't working). Then a deja vu of Silva at Bournemouth when Aguero's foot was stamped on. Again reviewed but still no penalty.
Perfectly summed up.

If you class ripping seats out and throwing them at city fans and Gobing on them is excellent your right

who was that bell end doing the commentary with Savage last night, sly digs throughout , free tickets to schools etc, and Ian Herbert making a sly dig about the same today in the mail.
Did Herbert comment on Uniteds attendance in the Europa last week,
And to echo others sentiments on here about the competition and the VAR shite, we are never going to win this competition unless we score perfect goals like Vinny's slammer against Leicester, its corrupt and that non penalty on Sergio last night 100% proves it, that's at the other end and it would have been given.

Just watched Bayern and compared their finishing to ours. I think it's fair to say that ours needs to improve significantly if we are going to go all the way in this competition.

East stand level 1, was great last night. Empty pockets I must admit, but I don't see a problem with 48, 000 turn out. Atmosphere was good. The passing was a joy.

Where were you sat?, upper tier maybe ?

It was great to see Mendy play 90 mins, and still full of running. It will always be difficult crossing into a box, with 9 defenders. Was a big positive for me.

Those continually looking for negatives, should take a hike over to Stretford, would be a new World of critiscm to explore.

I know we haven't collectively bought into the Champions League, and I feel that last night was a classic example why not. Poor/bent officiating, different styles of football (which are more tedious to watch than most Premier League clubs) etc...

But it's clearly the most important competition to be part of. Last nights win meant we netted around £2.4m. To put that in context we earned more than our prize money for winning the League cup or the FA cup. I know you don't get a trophy for each win, but let's put it in perspective, there's a lot riding on these games.

Very good performance last night yes we missed loads of chances but we got a clean sheet and won 2-0 can’t even remember them getting a clear chance at goal. Top of the group couldn’t ask for more.

I have been to many Euro away grounds where I cant see the pitch properly because of the netting, perhaps City need to start doing that after last nights disgraceful behaviour from yobs. It is time we stopped scummy idiots endangering our fans and players.
