Dino's is a place in NewYork that was just added to the song, and yes i defo say its about QSG , as I've talked to two lads that know.
I take it that it was a proper nightclub and nothing resembling a bar and grill (in the day or night)? It was around the corner from " The Europa club" just off Whitworth st, before you get to Sackville st coming up from the Palace theater .
I saw some Americans saying online they thought it was about US vets coming home or something like that which was promptly squashed by Irish/Brits. I also read Scott Gorham had apparently said once it was named after Dean Martin's place on sunset strip but this could be him cheekily stoking the mystery as many band members do with things - apparently it wasn't the place where "blood will spill" either.Dino's is a place in NewYork that was just added to the song, and yes i defo say its about QSG , as I've talked to two lads that know.
Back in the day, Denos was a greek bar &grill, in Mcr, location already described on here. I knew a few of the 'lads' back then, and that's where some of them 'socialised'. Either there, or Phil Lynotts Ma's place, the showbiz in Whalley range, assorted hotel bars, and sometimes Brambles on George St. But yeah, Deno's definitely existed.Dino's is a place in NewYork that was just added to the song, and yes i defo say its about QSG , as I've talked to two lads that know.
Ah, so it definitely resembled a bar and grill? Not sure why but commonly spelled Dino's (wouldn't Americans pronounce this "Dyno's" and us similarly anyway considering "Dinosaur," unless a shortened name) - if it is the MCR one, guess that would make it "Deno's Bar and Grill." I don't have the original release to check for any written lyrics.Back in the day, Denos was a greek bar &grill, in Mcr, location already described on here. Phil Lynott wasn't known for his spelling. Yep, it existed. Quite a few greek places like that in town at the time. Bar , restaurant, bit of cabaret. Takis was another, before it became a disco.Ah, so it definitely resembled a bar and grill? Cool! Well, I was taking the presumption that if the original release had the lyrics with it they probably would have asked the songwriter/copied the original handwritten lyrics so that would be a good indication of where the place was. I wouldn't know if the lyrics commonly used (as spelt with "Dino's") would have been verified for spelling, or if anyone knew Phil's intended spelling.Phil Lynott wasn't known for his spelling. Did once hear the inspiration came from another of his very early haunts, the Blackbird café at the bottom of Tib St, just before Market St. (opposite side to Debenhams, which then would still have been Pauldens) .... it was a 'grill' type café, but it was also a bar if they knew you, illegally serving drinks out of hours ... Name was changed to protect the not so innocent etc ...
Do recall my mum taking me in there as a nipper when shopping.
