Diogo Costa

The only thing that would be around after a nuclear winter would be cockroaches and Scott Carson.

It’s a tough gig being third keeper. Train everyday, no prospect of playing. Carson seems like a top bloke who stays positive and it’s hugely supportive of both Ederson and Ortega. He will be more difficult to replace than we expect. I’m guessing the salary is attractive but it’s not a great career move for anyone with an ounce of ambition. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Carson hang around as a coach - he’s well liked at City.

Can actually see this one happening
Get Costa in and Ederson out pretty quickly and for a relatively low net spend and then concentrate on other areas
I think it’s time for Ederson to go and Costa is a big name so can hopefully slot in.

Tough gig?

It’s nearly as amazing a gig as being Betty “hot pot love?” Turpin.

I think he's already coaching, even if it's not official. He'll be 40 this year and out of contract in the summer, so I'd agree, he'll move over full time. Whether for the 1st team or with the youngsters we'll have to see.

Give him a “player”/coach role to fill a home grown spot

Watched him a few times for Portugal and Porto, from what I’ve seen looks to be good but not as good with his feet (but then again no keeper will ever be as good as eddy with the ball) but looks a solid shot stopper. Would be a good signing IMO

It looks like he’s the one. Not sure about him at all but hopefully he’s a decent shot stopper. No one is as good as Ederson is as a passer or with the ball at his feet but even if he’s competent enough it should be fine.

One of Costa's supposed qualities is he is tactically astute. Hopefully we will get to see plenty of that.

Our scouts and football director must have it wrong eh?
People get it wrong sometimes though, no?

Bravo wasn't spectacular. Phillips an abysmal signing. Nolito wasn't anything special. Grealish has been nothing close to a £100m player.

Faith is nice but blind faith can be a mistake.

So a max of 4 players and one who had a great season during the treble?

We have no choice but to have faith, nobody is 100% to be honest thats fine because it means having faith in those that mostly get it right which is all anyone can ask. Doesn’t matter if it’s faith, no faith or blind faith it can’t be a mistake because it doesn’t make the blindest bit of difference to the outcome.

Should I include Cancelo who certainly failed the "no dickheads" requirement? We can chuck Mendy in with that too.

These four were just for the Pep era. I can give you more if you'd like beginning with takeover by Sheikh Mansour.

If you think one great season and winning the treble was worth 100 million GBP for Grealish, you are mad. Moreover, winning the treble isn't solely on him. Using the treble is a red herring to attempt to bolster your point.

I realise transfer season is the most exciting time of your year, akin to Christmas for a child, but there is nothing wrong with having a modicum of skepticism. Could the club be correct with Costa? Of course. Could they fuck it up? YES.

The only people one should put blind faith in is their parents, and even then it's wise to think about what type of people they are before you do so.
