Dipper Takeover? [Merged]

Riera has gone

Oh and Carragher is a donkey

Riera is shit though, hardly a loss is it? Carragher is no more or less a donkey than he was when he played the rags that day in the season which Liverpool ran the rags very close. Point is that their squad was very close to winning the league that year and it's not exactly been ravaged since then

They wouldn't get their hands on that £40m though. The bank would want it and it's not the sort of thing you could keep quiet exactly although there is a Brian Rix type comic potential to Stadler & Waldorf trying to convince their bank manager they've still got Torres.

But one thing we've all forgotten is that they have no CL income this season and if they haven't been sold to someone with money or don't look like getting back in the top 4 by the end of October then they're probably screwed as RBS then have to make a decision on the loan.

Hi PB again ;o)

Junior Account here lol.

What are their options?
It depends really. They have to take a view on whether they are likely to get it back and what the best way of achieving that is. At the end of the day they want their money back but in a way that minimised the fall-out. It also depends on what covenants are writtenin and what security they have.

So they could demand payment and, if the club can't raise the money elsewhere, they would take possession of the club and its assets. That might involve administration. However the fall-out would be immense and banks have traditionally been loathe to do this. The Co-op Bank were seriously talking about calling in City's loan a few years ago but decided against it.

They could decide to extend it in the hope something turns up but the danger is that they again fail to finish in the top 4 and the finances take a turn for the worse. This year will probably see them about £40m light due to not playing in the CL. This however might impact their ability to recover the loan.

The basic problem as tolmie said, is that the club has been up for sale for a while with no real interest, at least not at a price that satisfies H & G. The only reason that someone would come in now is to get it cheap, which will be even less to their liking.

So PB will the scousers have any substanial funds to compete if this take over comes off?

Don't know. We thought we would when Thaksin took over and Pompey thought they would after their takeover(s) last season. We nearly ended up in administration and they did.

It's squeaky bum time for the dippers as, if they don't get back into the CL they could crash and burn big time.

Surely if a bidder buys the debt and H&G default it´s still technically administration for the club and goodbye 9 points?

I don't believe he's buying the debt. Here's what the BBC says:

Kenny Huang, head of Hong Kong-based investment company QSL Sports Ltd, wants to take full control of the Reds, who have been up for sale since April. "A deal has to be done before the transfer window closes [on 31 August]," a source close to Huang told BBC Sport. "Huang has made a firm proposal. The club's board has to sanction the sale and it could be sewn up in days."

Huang has been talking for several weeks to representatives of the Royal Bank of Scotland, with the aim of taking full control of the Premier League club. RBS is Liverpool's main creditor, owed about £237m by American co-owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett. While RBS has told the BBC it is not negotiating directly with Huang, it is understood he is mounting a credible bid.

"Kenny is the only serious bidder interested in the club and he's optimistic," added the source. Huang is offering to clear Liverpool's debt to RBS, and give new manager Roy Hodgson funds to do business in the transfer window. However, he wants the deal to be completed within two weeks to allow Hodgson time to strengthen the squad before the transfer deadline at the end of August. Any later and the deal is off.

However that then brings me on to his last sentence. Liverpool are, basically, an entire team away from contending.

Are they fuck. This is the team that beat the rags less than a year and a half ago:

Jose Manuel Reina,
Sami Hyypia,
Fabio Aurelio,
Martin Skrtel,
Jamie Carragher,
Albert Riera (Andrea Dossena, 67),
Steven Gerrard (Nabil El Zhar, 90),
Lucas Leiva,
Javier Mascherano,
Dirk Kuyt,
Fernando Torres (Ryan Babel, 81)

Xabi Alonso was missing in this game and has gone now but apart form that it's plain to see that the squad hasn't changed a great deal and the backbone of their team, bar Alonso, is still there.

This team finished in 2nd place, 4 points behind the rags and 3 ahead of Chelsea, therefore they were very much contenders that season.

The severe under-estimation of Liverpool's team by bluemooners continues...

it's also the squad that finished 7th last season on 63 points a huge 23 points behind the winners. look at liverpools league performances over the last 4 seasons

06/07 3rd 68 - winners rags 89

07/08 4th 76 - winners rags 87

08/09 2nd 86 - winners rags 90

09/10 7th 63 - winners chelsea 86

only in one season have they achieved more than 80 points and as you say they have more or less the same squad but their key players are kicking on a bit now and injury prone
