You've got to remember the big hole silva leaves when it comes to passing and opening defences. That caught up with us today. We could be full strength for the first time this season next Saturday.

One player missing simply doesn't wash i'm afraid

Bingo
As Dave said the other day not one of southamptons players would get in our team
Yet they totally outplayed us today

Home or away teams who press us high and keep possession have troubled us. Next match v arsenal will be classic example. If pelle sticks with our usual home formation, arsenal will punish Us.

It's going to be an interesting call - but history tells us it's going to be 442 with Negredo/Kun up top. Not really sure you can argue against it at home with the way our current home form is.

My version of today's events is that it wasn't so much the formation but more of key players having a bit of a bad day at the office. Negredo, Kun and Yaya were all a little below par today. As a unit on the whole I thought we defended rather well and I don't recall many heart in the mouth moments when this very effective and underrated Saints side got close to our Goal.

On the questions being raised about the lack of options in midfield with the concerns over the fitness of Rodwell, the mobility of Garcia and the technical ability of Milner; I wonder if Mr P has considered Zabaleta ?

He played there quite often under Hughes. His last game in that role was against Poznan in the Europa and he did have an absolute shocker but he is energetic and he can pick a pass.

Zab struggled to pass well today.

I think the whole thing is mentality, it was last year as well, we look for all sorts of tactical reasons and this is natural but if at home you have a perfect record and away it is relegation material the fault has to lie with the players mentality, simple as, you will nearly always get more points at home but the difference between the two shouldn't be so stark.

Last year everyone was saying we have no plan B when teams park the bus but they were parking the bus at home all season and we did fine

I have said before the problem is this manager and the previous one probably have no idea why this happens

How many times have we seen over the years teams can't win away from home then bingo it happens and then they struggle at home, do our players want it enough that they are willing to put that effort in 90% of the time both home and away?

I have said it before and I am still to be convinced I am wrong. We are flat track bullies. When everything is going well the likes of Yaya, Nasri, Kolarov, Edin seem like world beaters. When it isn't, which for obvious reasons is normally away from home, they lack the mentality to dig us out of trouble.

Eh? You could say that about every team just another piece of over the top hyperbole

Not at all. There have always been teams that on a good day put 5, 6 or 7 past the opposition. But when they need to roll their sleeves up lack the mental resolve. That is what we look like. Incapable of stamping our authority on away games.

And I would like to add that despite beating Tottenham 6-0, we are even with a GD of +26 to their -1 only 2 points in front. That suggests we score for fun when the pressure is off.

Like I've already said I'm not going round in circles with you. My point of view is clear. I don't think it's that hard to understand. I understand yours, I don't agree with it at all. But I understand why you feel the need to further it.
You've provoked this by sneering at people with 'trophy lust', yes, we want trophies and success, as do the people entrusted with running our club, whether that's five trophies spread across two terrific years or consistently picking up one a year, they still want success. Success is not less important than style. We have not scaled back our ambition with the appointment of Soriano and Txiki. Quite the opposite.

Having it read it tonight I have to disagree with your interpretation, he clearly states several times that the best possible product is a winning team:

"A good football product is a team that wins...The FC Barcelona product is the team - it is the starting and finishing point. Management is aimed at having a team capable of winning any tournament they play and making the fans happy. Financially, the club must be big and healthy enough to sign and retain the best players, but achieving a specific level of revenue or income is not an objective on its own (pre-FFPR). Just a means to build and maintain the best possible product, a winning team.

This is why in the first few years, all our efforts were aimed at obtaining the necessary resources in order to rebuild the team; signing up the best players so as to have a high-quality players group that was well-balanced and ambitious enough to work harder in order to win as many titles as possible."

You can see that clearly in the club and our summer transfer policy.

I think Keegan's Newcastle is a good comparison for us
