Two things from yesterday. The half time changes obviously worked their magic. And it takes character to turn a two goal deficit around. Credit to the players who came on and the manager.

I believe Jovetic played the Nasri role when he came on. This also pleases me greatly.

The Rodders for Kompany sub was a big one for me. He had Fernandinho and Nastasic on the bench and to chose to bring on Vinnie who to be fair brought leadership and fight, even gesturing to the crowd and getting them up a bit.

Him and Zab coming on spurred the team on and it wasn't just what they brought as footballers but their desire and hunger seemed to inspire the team who were pretty lackluster and second to every ball.

Rodwell was struggling and I don't think anybody would have been angry if he brought on Ferdi, the Kompany sub and pushing Demi into midfield for only the second (?) time for us shows that Pellegrini thought outside the box and it came back to him in goals.

Engineering at its best

There are very few managers who would bring on two defenders when their team was two down at home. Tactically brilliant.

This is true, although it was clear to see in the first half that Richards, Rodwell and Lopez were the weak links. Im assuming pushing MDM to midfield was caused by Milners injury in warm up.

In fact, the only other manager I could think who would be so bold substitution wise would be Jose Mourinho who would most like have given Lopez the curly finger at half time as well. JM was my first choice to be the new manager, but happy that i seem to have got it wrong.

Just thinking about how great MP has been, the evening news published that comparative chart on ave points per game for first half of seasons to show it:
Pellegrini 2.2
Mancini 2.1
Ericsson 1.8
Hughes 1.4
Keegan & Pearce 1.2

So far It Hansen't been often that Pellegrini has found himself in that situation at half time. I was thinking we'll see what Pellegrini is made of now.
Came through in flying colours.

he's doing a great job just like Bobby Manc did and hopefully he will match Bobby's haul of silverware for starters and then far exceed it and Manuel will also become a City legend :-)

I do think that his opening teamsheet was dodgy though yesterday.

Richards and Rodwell were both coming back from injury and needed sharpness, and the pairing of Lescott and Demi at centre half is so slow against a team that were pretty obviously going to attack us quite quickly.

The midfield seemed to be picked on fitness requirements in front of any tactical play. With a four of young Lopes, Rodders, Yaya and Navas I think we lacked a bit of our normal creativity in there. I don't know how to phrase this but I know what I want to say - I don't think Navas is a particularly creative player. His final ball is excellent and he must be a nightmare to play against but he's someone who can finish a creative move rather than be the maestro. This means that we were really looking at Lopes to be our creative player which might have contributed to him losing the ball so much and looking a bit lost.

Essentialy we had 2 players that weren't really fit, a slow pairing at centre back and a lack of creativity in the middle against a Championship team that would be right up for it. I do think Pellegrini underestimates the work rate and desire of the smaller teams at times.

I'm of the belief that we should play our strongest team in the first half to go a few goals up then bring on the Rodwells and Richards who need fitness and Lopes who need experience. The Lopes/Jovetic thing was probably always going to be a split half either way to be fair.

I think he made a mistake which he seems to have admitted in his post match, but he made up for it very well as i mentioned earlier.

I see what you're saying. Navas is a winger. He's very direct and useful in that regard. He can do a job more centrally located when he's paired with a Silva or Nasri or perhaps Jovetic. It's unfair to expect that from Lopes at this point.
