Discuss Pellegrini...

I like Pellegrini too, but I do have a concern that he has an issue with English players - Milner has definitely been under-played, and I think yesterday was a prime example of where Gareth Barry's experience as playing in front of a couple of harassed centre halves would have been invaluable. Surely every time Jimmy Milner plays he proves himself worth a decent run in the side - he tends to play in all sorts of positions for all sorts of time periods and just gets on with it and never fails to give value. However Manuel must see something bad in him that I have a blind spot for.

The areas they improved upon were overall shape and defensive discipline, that's the part that should make you optimistic.

Players coming back knackered from the world cup won't help him much,i wouldn't expect to see an immediate improvement

Could be a big factor at the start of next season
Won't just be us though, Arse, Chelsea, Pool will all have just as many call-ups as we do.

I really like Pellegrini and some of the football we've played this season is amongst the best i've ever seen from any team.

However i think it's pretty evident that the open way we play has meant we've ceded control of matches at points, allowed other teams to attack our over exposed defence, leading to individual errors that have cost us points and possibly the league.

I think next season is the season to judge him though, a few more squad alterations and we should have greater tactical flexibility and players more suited to the way Pellegrini wants us to play. I realise that's a bit of a cliche, but one i believe applies.

If you take our shaky early season away form out (Cardiff, Villa, Stoke, Sunderland) we'd still be comfortably top of the table, i don't think next season we'll suffer from that.

Still the possibility of the title this season, and the likelihood of another, improved season round the corner, i'm content with the job he's done so far.

Hopefully next season we'll also have Aguero, Jovetic and Kompany fit and available more often.

Thing is all the other contenders will strengthen their squads!!! Where would Chelsea be this season with a top class striker???

A factor that effects everyone, not just our squad.

Assuming spain get to the final and possibly argentina do well thats a lot of our team

Why would we be adrift at Christmas next season when we're still in the race with 5/6 games to go this season ? Total logic fail there once again from you Rob. Think you need to go for a long walk because you've been systematically at the manager's throat since our first defeat of the season back in September. It's a bit tragic when the guy's already won a trophy and has made such a marked and stark improvement on last season.

There's a bigger picture happening at City also which you're completely missing. The current squad is one which the previous two managers built. Pellegrini will be given the same time and space which Mancini and before him Hughes got. There'll be no knee jerking because Liverpool won yesterday or if we don't win the title. The expectation will be greater next season but nobody involved at the club will be lamenting Pellegrini's appointment. He's exactly what everyone from Sheikh Mansour downwards wanted for City last summer because he is not only stabilising but improving a team that was at the end of last season ready to be broken up because of the amount of dissatisfaction amongst the playing staff.

Improving? Debateable. Both you and I reckoned we should have won last year. We have added players , got rid of a divisive manager. Ergo we should be champions this year. Our performances against our main rivals have been naive.

Point two. You are probably right. But in my defence I want titles now rather than at some point in the future when the whole holistic thing comes together.

its not even debateable. in real terms we've gone backwards. our strong point, the defence, is now a calamity waiting to happen. every game.
but we are all getting on fine now, we can all watch other teams picking up trophies in a venue somewhere whilst patting each other on the back on what a great and friendly season its been.

nothing is better than being happy.

In real terms?? How on earth did you work that one out. We have weakened in defence.

But in terms of points- we have improved.
Are we closer to the top- yes
Goals scored- improved
Champions League- improved
trophy- you guessed it, we have improved.

So I am not entirely sure how on earth you came to the conclusion that 'in real terms' we have gone backwards. Simple facts....just some simple facts.

It will be but it will be the same for all the top teams.

Pretty close to where they are now, There's no point in having a top notch no.9 when willian Oscar and hazard all prefer trying to dribble past players or shoot from range to passing the ball/crossing it for the striker.

Chelsea will be the biggest threat next season surely, but their record at buying strikers is shocking.
