I hear what you're saying, but I suppose it comes down to do you trust in youth or not? As far as I'm concerned for a club with our ambitions, if Kelechi isn't good enough to fill in as a 3rd striker, then he shouldn't be on the bench.

As I mentioned a few days ago, we seem to be showing little faith in our youth and just seem happy to let other clubs take the risk of playing them and then we come along after the fact and pay £44m. The only way we're going to know if Kelechi is good enough is to play him when needed and to trust he repays our faith in him. I dread to think what was going through his mind after hearing from MP that he's not a striker. If Kelechi isn't trusted enough to be our third striker, questions need to be asked as to why we've gone into this season with effectively 2 senior strikers, with one being injury prone and the other just recovering from malaria and still yet to properly find his feet with us.

I've seen enough of Kelechi to at least give him more that a cursory 7 minutes at the end of the odd match here and there. We along with Chelsea seem to have a aversion to playing our youth products, I hate to say this but could this be down to the fact that both clubs have enough resources to continually go out and buy the near finished/finished article?

As another poster said, I dont think MP is ignoring youth. He wouldnt have played Kelechi against both Palace and Norwich otherwise. He just: (1) wants to develop them slowly; and (2) felt that a Navas/KDB/Sterling combination with Fernandinho able to venture forward was our best chance of winning the game. You can debate either decision, but I dont see how anyone can say he was clearly wrong (much less throwing puerile internet abuse at him). If Kelechi plays only odd minutes here and there for the rest of the season, then I for one will not be happy, but I dont expect that.

It is always tempting to throw a youngster in at the deep end, but there is a pretty significant risk of burn-out, especially when our standards are so high. Again, look at Martial. Pretty good start, but is fading as people get to know his play, and it's not clear that playing him every game is actually a benefit to his development.

Good points mate.

Goodness me that goes against the Bluemoan zeitgeist, you're supposed to say he's one or all of tactically naive, senile, idiotic or too stubborn to play kids not called Manuel

very well said

Kelechi will get his minutes, more and more as the season goes on. For all those thinking he should be full thrust, frontline, keep in mind he had a major injury last year and also was injured earlier this year. There is good sense in easing him in. Also, look at Martial. Started off quite impressively (albeit against powder puff opponents), but is becoming less and less impressive as other teams focus more on him. It's an exceptionally rare teenager who can carry an attack and by far the more likely outcome is early burnout.

Will he though? Don't forget aguero will be back and bony will want some game time
