Shame Manuel's a coward.

A coward?? Ffs, that's harsh. He has his faults like all of us but don't think cowardice is one of them. Anyone managing a premier league club these days has to have large cajones. He manages with a great deal of grace and integrity two attributes which are relatively rare in sport.

As another poster said, I dont think MP is ignoring youth. He wouldnt have played Kelechi against both Palace and Norwich otherwise. He just: (1) wants to develop them slowly; and (2) felt that a Navas/KDB/Sterling combination with Fernandinho able to venture forward was our best chance of winning the game. You can debate either decision, but I dont see how anyone can say he was clearly wrong (much less throwing puerile internet abuse at him). If Kelechi plays only odd minutes here and there for the rest of the season, then I for one will not be happy, but I dont expect that.

It is always tempting to throw a youngster in at the deep end, but there is a pretty significant risk of burn-out, especially when our standards are so high. Again, look at Martial. Pretty good start, but is fading as people get to know his play, and it's not clear that playing him every game is actually a benefit to his development.

TBH mate, there's no danger of Kel being burned out after 7 minutes of football just the same way that 7 minutes of football isn't going to assist his development greatly either. I agree that hurling abuse at Pellegrini for his decision is pointless, but to question whether 60 minutes of football will lead to Kel's burnout is very valid.

I don't think anyone is advocating burning Kel out, but even giving him 7 minutes here and there is throwing him in at the deep end to a degree anyway. In many fans opinions, they believed we should have kept our shape and replaced a striker with a striker which was my opinion too, but I suppose it goes back to one of the critisisms I had about our team selections at times last season whereby it seemed that we picked the best 11 players available not the best 11 players to suit the formation we were using. Square pegs and all that.
