Didn't he make changes last night which ultimately won us the match and gave us much more 'control' ?

As I said in a post above, MD and NO can't play together IMO. Not in the league and not in the CL. In that sense you can stick a wall of Fernando, Dinho, and Toure two yards in front of the pair of them and they'll still ship goals.

We were getting battered, then scored a goal from a corner and Borussia bottled it after that. Nothing changed, they bottled it. Plus it took 60 minutes for a reaction. We should have been 3-0 down by that point... and even then that reaction was taking off a half fit Yaya who probably shouldn't have started, in Pellers own words. There was absolutely no reactions at all v Spurs or Juve.

I've got nowt against Pellers, but he clearly has some flaws. He'll only ever be a good manager, not a genuine great.

It also doesn't work for Stoke does it or all the other defensively solid and disciplined sides ;-)

Media pundit says "x" about us and a few on here repeat it till they are blue in the face for a week or so non stop.

Some things never change.

That is so fucking condescending. We all watched the game and whatever valid excuses are given, and there are some, it was the same incoherent and at times shambolic european performance that we have got used to under both the current and previous manager. If you want to continue with your emperor´s new clothes approach fine.

No offence but I don't agree. I think that every manager has flaws, even the mythical greats.

I also think it serves the discussion no great purpose if you say that we should've been 3 down without acknowledging the guilt edged chances that we missed too. Like the pretty much open goal Kun missed in the first 30 seconds of the match.

BTW it's nearly podcast time! ;)

No, you're not listening. I'm all for the occasional tactical tweak against a top side in Europe. Borussia aren't that. They are an average German side. The fact we played poorly last night had little to do with the tactics and a lot to do with players playing really fucking badly. It happens.

Also please answer my question from a couple of posts up about the four ties against Bayern and Barca - you believe we've played the same tactics in all four games ?

Calm down, you only posted it 2 minutes ago! Your post about playing like Chelsea didn't insinuate you felt we should change at all. In fact it seemed to me that didn't want us to change at all. Now I'm only arguing that we change tactics for certain games. I also think you're doing Borussia a disservice but understand you point that they are not Barca or Bayern.

Let's see how we fare against tougher opposition. I hope Pellers proves me wrong.

The issue last night was a completely unfit and ineffectual Yaya allowing them a free run on our back four rather than the media and some on here line of, "we cant defend".

Pellegrini hauled him at half time and the second half brought about far more control and the win.

If you find what i said condescending, tough.

What I honestly believe though is that Pellers has one very good plan A that works against 95% of teams but for whatever reason he doesn't feel we need to change our setup away from home in the CL against most opposition and I think that is a mistake.

With respect, your opinion on things isn't a point which needs a reply. I've taken on board all the points you've made in your previous posts, no stress about that.

I think what you'll find in all four of those matches is that we played different tactical shapes and set ups. We played low blocks, medium blocks, and high ones. We played 442, 433, 4231. The point is that proclaiming that Pellegrini is one dimensional or that he takes one approach into all matches isn't true. It's totally disingenuous. He takes the same approach into 95% of the game we play because that's the best way to win those games. He has changed tac when it has been required in Europe (and even in the PL on occasion). He's done that without particularly sacrificing his own basic footballing principles, but with an eye on what is best for the team and what he thinks is the best way to get the result he wants. He has preached as much about being a 'balanced' as other have demanded we be.

A big difference between Mancini and Pellegrini is that Mancini would make big changes during a match if things weren't going our way in an attempt to change it. Pellegrini doesnt(other than subs).

Epitome of square pegs in round holes sometimes, rather try to just keep pushing it through than try a different shape.

I think we pretty much will be playing one way and this is it. We just cant do hard fought defensive masterclass performances with the intention of coming away with 1-0 wins. Our players don't have it in their football DNA.

It was a cracking game to watch last night that's for sure despite how bad defensively we were until they scored.

One thing that did annoy me was going 2-1 up with 2 mins left and we get the ball and 5 players bomb upfield including Kolorov! If ever there is a time to see the game out, that is surely it. Even then from the corner, we had no one in the box for obvious reasons and still managed to gift them an attack within 3 seconds of us taking the corner. We really have to tighten up this stuff.

He did against Watford and it paid dividends instantly. Doesn't do it enough though.

Every manager does indeed have his flaws, but most of the greats at least reach semi-finals and finals in their flawed seasons. We may do that, but its worrying that we're looking exactly as we have done ever in the champions league and when the same flaws are there that are always there, you should sort them. This team is far too good to be scraping a 2-1 win against BMG.

I think MP is a decent manager with blind-spots. You don't think he blind-spots are either there, or are a problem I guess...Let's agree to disagree.

Credit to him for his tactical changes fernando and navas got us moving forward a lot quicker and give us more work ethic going forward! But his set up again was woefull a paceless defence playing a high line! With a 10% fit midfielder in front was a recipe for disaster! I know he's got no options at the back but play to your players strengths!

We've just bought a sought after, 20 something defender, one of the best in the world, and the bluemoon massive are slaughtering him and pining for mangala. The same people no doubt who were slaughtering mangala last season.

We won last night. Against a German side in Germany. A side that had never lost at home to an English team.

Our manager changed things around at half time and we were easily the better team in the second half.

We won. We won . We won.

Pelligrini is going nowhere this season. Get used to it.

Second in the league, good chance in the ecl, next round of the league cup, best squad in the entire history of our club. Cheapest season tickets in the league, playing the most exciting football in the league.

And a manager who is calmness personified.

We've never had it so good. Why are so many not happy?

Not sure it is "so many" just seems like that, all the True City fans, know what is good and what is bad, some people just like to moan, have plenty of them sat round me in East Stand lower

Agree with all of that. The issue I think is quite what we expect from "the best squad in the entire history of our club". Most of the arguments on here probably reflect that some expect more from these players than others.

It´s fair to say the United squad is a million miles from their best ever, while Chelsea and Arsenal have undoubtedly had better teams. Given that, not winning the league would be poor. When it comes to europe I think there are mitigating factors. The competitive nature of the PL makes it tough for all the english sides.

We did what we had to do. A fit and firing Yaya would have given us what we needed in the 1st half. MP recognised this, changed it and we won. Lets be clear here, the Germans have been free scoring this season and a good side.

Swings and roundabouts for me. In my opinion we hammered Juve and lost. We still created more chances last night and should have scored more. As should the Germans, but Joe did the job he is paid to do.

Important point about Joe, a member of our defence that apparently cant defend for toffee?

I dont care who stops them, Mangala, Vinny, Otemendi etc etc or Joe like last night as long as someone does.
