IMO, the biggest thing in terms of the perception of Aitor is that he was perceived as getting rid of Mancini to put his own man in the manager's seat. Mancini was very popular with a lot of fans and some of them haven't forgiven him for it.

Not surprised that he wants to stay, though. Doesn't his role encompass the whole CFG and not just City? A very exciting project for someone like him, I'd imagine.

Txiki's reputation is partly dependant on Pellers' selections that are perceived by some Blues and pundits as anti English and anti youth. There are very few top English talents and our youth players haven't been quite ready - but the labelling of the "English quota" may have damaged how we look to potential domestic transfer targets!

I seem to think Rodolfo Borrell is the Global Technical Director for City Football which I've always taken to mean that he is doing the more Academy/coach education/technical management of the other clubs where Txiki is the transfer man for them who lands deals. This would mean Txiki does his full job at City and a small part of his job for the wider CFG which makes sense.

Always got the feeling that signing Mangala and Fernando instead of whoever is the latest fashionable players has been the thing that irked so many people. They don't care about us signing Jesus Navas for an excellent bargain, they want the flavour of the month for £60m and somehow think it's Txiki that is blocking this.

Funny how Txiki's biggest fanboys are also Pellegrini's. Anyone would think they were on a wind up. ;-)

The reality is, Txiki's done an ok job fur us so far, some hits, some misses. Fernandinho is a great player, but to be fair you'd expect him to be for £30m. Same with Mangala, I expect him to be a big player for us next season, which isn't an unrealistic expectation for a £32m centre half.

Negredo was great for 6 months, Navas has been very average, but for £15m that's kind of what you'd expect. Sagna was a free, but has been ok, nothing more, nothing less. Jovetic, talented but not right for us.

Cabellero poor. Fernando has been a joke hasn't he, although only £15m, he's been that bad that one broadsheet ran a story investigating whether Txiki had been on the take to buy a player that's so poor.

So on the incomings, a mixed bag.

On the outgoings, he's actually done well. Getting the money he did for shite like Rodwell, Sinclair and Garcia, was excellent business, and he deserves credit. His major mistake in outgoings was how criminally he underrated Barry. An outstanding player for us who went on to win Everton's player of the season.

Barca was a similarly mixed back, for every Ronaldhinho there was a Kerrison. He bought some outstanding players to Barca and helped lay the foundations for the best team in history. But the 3 most influential players in that team came through the youth academy, and there are others who deserve much more credit than him for their development.

So Txiki, he's done a decent job for us so far, but let's not get carried away. How this summer plays out will determine how he will be remembered at City.

Personally I've been taken aback by the sheer hostility levelled at Txiki in particular by segments of our support, and I'm not just talking about kids on the internet. It seems for whatever reason he has rubbed up some of our more seasoned supporters the wrong way too. I listened to the Bluemoon Podcast end of season thing which was recorded live and it made me chuckle how the only comments/questions from the audience were a couple of what sounded like older Blues having a pop at the "barca boys". Pretty sure they made a mess of trying to pronounce Begiristain too. Maybe should've practiced in front of the mirror before going on a live podcast recording try and slate the club's executives.

The fact that they can't pronounce it says it all about the sections of our support holding the cynicism. You know exactly what I mean and of course Petrusha has hit the nail on the head as to why.

I'm not saying Txiki, or Soriano, get a free pass for anything, but they are damn well qualified, intelligent and credible blokes and deserve to be judged on results over a proper period of FFP free time. I used to say this club was sometimes like a Ferarri driven by a teenager but since they arrived those days are long gone.

The 'Barca Boys' stuff is proper cringeworthy, small town Johnny stuff. I also remember the 'subverting from within' sentiment and laughed my cock off at it at the time. People actually believed it, and I think Vicky Kloss got roped into it, too. I think the 'thinking' (I use the term loosely) was that they didn't want City to be successful until they had appointed their own staff and could take all the credit.

what's he doing in South America when Pogba's in France?

I strongly suspect The Sheikh has included a mobile phone in his package, George. Or maybe he's just swanning around on expenses instead of doing his job properly, eh?

Sterling is in Ibiza. I bet you Garry Cook would have been swallowing Es in Pasha and putting his arm around him and going "I love you Raheem. I'm going to make you a star".

While calling other players mums. I miss garry.

Good post

A point I would add is about the sum of the player recruitment, development and sales. I hope Txiki plays a blinder in the transfer market but at this moment we are being held over a barrel because of our desperation for homegrown talents! It is inevitable that we will have to pay well over the odds!
