Heard very similar story with regards the Sterling transfer.

I can't stress enough. We've bought players who essentially weren't available for transfer.

Another interesting thing is Everton/West Brom refusing to sell one of their top players to another PL club. Doing the Sterling deal early was a stroke of genius. Fee would probably have been exponentially bigger had we fucked around until August before going in for him. Or worst case scenario Liverpool would've been forced to keep him simply because of what Everton are doing with Stones.

For info, the Sterling deal would have been done even earlier but for the delay with a Liverpool trying to buy out QPR's sell on clause.

The media just reported on the Scousers rejecting our initial bids but there was more to it!

Yeah that was mentioned too. The sell on clause issue.

I think we should also give credit to our scouts. On KDB we first started the process in the autumn which suggests we were well into him before his outstanding season.

Great point, and extremely important.

There's absolutely no way that we could have signed Sterling if the Stones saga was where it is now. Liverpool couldn't have sold their best player whilst Everton are point blank refusing to sell theirs. These little types of things are why he gets the really big money in terms of seeing all of the game.

I havn`t read all the new posts on this thread, but I would hope that those people who gave Txiki all the shite that could be thrown at him,had a pair of bollocks and actually held their hands up and apologised.
The more reasoned of us,sat back and waited patiently, knowing that the KDB transfer could go down to the wire but unfortunately too many threw their fucking dollies out of the pram and crucified the poor guy.Well done Txiki and well done to Tolm and Ric but a big fat wank stain to the second coming "Mr Anonymous".

Well done to Txiki and also to Soriano for providing him with the platform, I still reckon we could do with another deep lying playmaker to take the heat off Yaya but De Bruyne and Garcia both have the potential to take on that role in future and there's always next summer :)

All most of us ever asked was to just wait till the end of the window and then judge him lol.

The window isn't closed yet so it's a bit premature but, as someone not really convinced by our recent transfer business I have to admit being somewhat pleased by this window. I use caution because although the acquisition of Sterling and KDB are impressive we have paid top dollar for both. I like Sterling although he's not a £50 million player but I do see the potential. KDB has had a great season in Germany but lets see how that translates to the Prem.
Other plusses are definitely the young recruits although I have a nagging doubt as to whether we will ever see them in our first team.
Neutral about getting shot of both Edin and Jovetic as they both needed to go but I don't think we did great business with either of them.
I'm not happy about Otamendi. Not because he isn't a good player but because he wasn't in our plans until a combination of a poor friendly and an outstanding debt made the deal happen. It's bad for our younger players as we've seen already and puts a doubt on the whole idea of bringing through our own players.

So overall I'm more positive about Txiki than I was but I'm still not of the mind that he's a demigod as some others are.

Good post. The lack of progress for players coming through the youth team (including Denayer and Lopes who shone whilst on loan) is the biggest worry in IMHO!
