Disorder on the increase at Football Games

On what possible grounds could they refuse you entry to a football ground if you’d had a drink?

Do they still have that offer where if you get in the ground early enough they’ll sell you cheap beer?
I don't have the answer to either question pal. But body and searching is the norm nowadays. Only a matter of time i think, like i say.

Good

Bored of queuing up to go in stadium surrounded by dickheads on coke
You’d be queuing a whole lot longer if they started mandatory testing people for drink/drugs on the way into a stadium. Fucking hell, I think even Thatcher might’ve baulked at the invasion of people’s civil liberties with that!

Tbf, there’s plenty of anecdotal evidence of stewards refusing fans entry to grounds on their arbitrary opinion that they’ve had too much to drink.

Certainly something that they need to get on top of quickly as I remember crowds falling heavily in the 80’s when all this was going on.

We had the second highest number of arrests which surprised me.
Don't forget being arrested doesn't prove you are guilty of anything
A list of actual convictions would make more interesting reading, even then it can't be compared until the severity of the conviction is known.
Being arrested for pissing in a back alley isn't the same as being convicted for ABH

Well yeah, if you’re steaming drunk and falling all over the place, there’s a fair chance you’re going to get refused entry to pretty much anywhere. So a football club could reasonably adopt the same policy.

The other guy seemed be suggesting like a drink drive test or something, to people who were behaving perfectly reasonably, which would be a bit discriminatory since drinking alcohol is perfectly legal.

Football as always reflects society. At the moment I'm on holiday in Tenerife. I've been here a few weeks. I've never seen so many fucking idiots out here and that isn't just the kids it's people 50+. Fucking cretins with no respect for anybody or anything, just smashed out of their heads.

Statistics say what now? Anything you want them to say. There could be a million reasons why their numbers indicate disorder and arrests are up.

There seems to be a relentless demonisation of football fans these days. Again. It isn't healthy. The issue isn't football, football is just a symptom. All IMHO, of course.

Football fans have always been an easy target, can't have the working class oinks getting rowdy can we?

When you factor in the millions who attend games the arrests are miniscule and blown out of all proportion. You only have to look at the fuss made about our title winning game and subsequent celebrations against Villa to see that.

I'll add that people are probably under the greatest mental strain for decades. Two years of freedoms being restricted followed by rising costs of living in everything has to have an impact and a release valve.

Older nutters are often worse than younger ones because the older ones will likely have experience of being on the receiving end of a good hiding yet if they’re still acting like nutters, they really will be nutters.

Young nutters often shut the fuck up after their first good hiding!

I keep moaning about the demonisation of football fans.

We keep being told to sit down, shut up, walk over there or you’ll get truncheoned, don’t sing that, you can’t sing that, don’t be homophobic, stop being racist… when most football fans behave perfectly reasonably at every game, nearly all football fans do not chant homophobic songs, nearly all football fans are not racist… yet we keep getting the finger pointed at us to stop being these things.

Does my head in.

And who amplifies it all? Fucking sports reporters who have suddenly decided to be moral crusaders, when their own morals are clearly questionable, or to be law and order experts.

Just report on the fucking sport and leave it to the news reporters to report on crimes at football games, if they don't have anything better to do.

You can predict what happens next:

i Police ask for more budget to combat increased disorder at football matches

ii Senior policemen to get bigger bonuses after exceeding arrest targets at football matches.

Does feel from a purely observational/anecdotal perspective that things are getting a bit worse. Not sure how much lockdowns and the current socio-economic climate have played a part, but are probably factors. Still think it’s a long way from the late 80s/early 90s when I started going to football mind you.

Not that surprised by our number of arrests though. We have a pretty rum element to our support still, particularly away from home!
At away games some of our fans are more of threat than the home fans.

Right now I have never felt safer at a football game. The only game where I feel a bit of an edge is when the dippers are in town. The dippers would be top of every arrest list if Merseyside police actually arrested anyone at Anfield. The fact that these vermin NEVER get caught on camera and are portrayed as an example to others is simply laughable.

The more they keep on lecturing people not to do stuff and trying to control them the more people rail against it, then it becomes a vicious circle. As you rightly say 99% of fan's wouldn't dream of doing any of the stuff they lecture us about but the fuckers go on about it so much it makes me want to do it just to say fuck you lol.

Why does it suprise you ? That stat simply says that GMP are pro-active (with the encouragement of the club)
If Merseysides finest ever bothered taking their fingers out of their backsides, they would be a lot higher. (I haven't even looked at the table, I just know they won't be anywhere near the top.)

They’re just throwers from a distance those cunts, and jibber-inners at European finals.

Whenever we’ve been to Wembley or Leicester against them when numbers are even, their support are mostly just shirters and scarfers, I think we’ve got a much larger mental element to our support than them. We just don’t throw things as buses.

I saw more menacing groups of handy looking lads in Brighton’s support when we played them at Wembley than I have Liverpool’s.

There are loads more scraps with Arsenal fans at Wembley every time we face them there than anyone else.
