Do National teams need a full time coach?

Couldnt , for example, Pep, be asked to take over for the 10/11 international games over a season.
A decent right hand man, all games filmed for scouting purposes, and lets have it right, its bollocks that players are picked on club form, coaches know who they do and dont trust.

So, could it work?

Pep would only need a CV that probably read P10 W9 D1 L0 GF57 GA 8 and he would be pilloried from one press gutter to the next about not winning all ten!
 
They would look better with no coach and a ‘just go out and enjoy yourselves’ mantra.

Or at least not be as fucking bad...

The nations league that you are suggesting would be the qualifying tournament, just with a different name.

You're right about coaches, but we have had part-time managers at international club levels

may idea was to be the world league setups and would be seeded and promotion and relegation
so the top 32 teams for league A then on to B and C and so on, then knockouts for the top 2 teams from the groups home and away and then grand final

I do think club football is one thing and international football another for managers,
would the best managers from league football make good international managers, that's the 64 thousand pound question, money makes league managers better when buying quality, forget systems you still need world-class players first,

pep say's it, PLAYERS are the ones that make his job easy

I think you are right, but the England players at club level are of a merchantable quality - it's just that when Southgate has 'em for a fortnight they appear to be nowhere near the level we saw in the previous month.

Another point, has there ever been a successful manager who wasn't particularly successful at club level but had the success with an national team? I suspect the loot that HarrogateMan is trousering would be in excess of what he might get with the kind of club which would appoint him, but most managers want the day to day rather than the once in a while.

Day to day club managers hate international managers taking their players away for 2 weeks without any input or say on how much game time they will play or not,
 
Answer to the question asked - yes international teams do need a full time coach so they can keep up with current form etc.
Answer in the case of England, couldn't care less. You could put the best manager in the World in charge and we're still winning feck all. The recent semi final/final appearances were miracles given the players we have - there isn't a World class player in the squad.
All good at what they do in the PL, but tend to be found out outside of that.

Always makes me laugh when you see Southgate (or any England manager) in the stands during a game that's live on TV.
You would think he'd record that game and go and watch a game that wasn't on TV.

Also what a free loader...... probably says to his wife "where do you fancy going this weekend? Arsenal or Elland Road? You did like that steak last time we went to Elland Road"

You can see more at a ground than on tv to be fair. Unless there are scouting cameras set up, the main camera will always follow the ball, whereas Southgate may want to focus on a particular player.

His scouting can’t be very good though as he keeps picking Maguire even though there isn’t a bench cam.
 
Will Southgate still have a job after the Germany game if we get beat ? The media will be all over him and I don't feel we can go into the world cup with the bad run of form and little signs of players revolt and not believing in Southgate,

enough, of this playing Harry Maguire to try and prove a point ? In polishing a turd, then having a back 3 with wing backs to cover his choice, taking away a midfield option and playing Maguire is killing the attacking midfield and forwards

the only way Southgate stays in his job will be thumping Germany, but I don't see it happening
