Do we need a big star signing?

Am I alone in preferring us to just buy 2 unknown possible hidden gems instead of 2 big signings?

A young Brazilian winger and an eastern european central defender will do me to make the squad more competitive with Mancini citing that Suarez, rekik, razak and guidetti are to have a more prominent role in the squad.

Depends how fast the club wants the champions league. The squad we have now isn't stron enough and you can't gamble with central defenders or you get Savic. We only need 2 players but they need to be quality.

Sinclair - probably not
Agger - maybe
DDR - more than likely

Agger would certainly improve our squad IMO
DDR - Guaranteed he would stregthen it.
Sinclair - He is young as Mancini would say, not sure

Should we pay 27m for Agger when maybe there are alternatives who could do a similar job for less (having said that I don't know too many left footed central defenders)

Should we pay over 30m for DDR - but you get what you pay for?

Should we take a risk on 8m for an unknown quantity?


The transfer madness is in the final couple of weeks for once I am very chilled out, and before anyone starts flapping, how many players have Barca signed or Real Madrid? Maybe we are emulating or waiting for them to decide who they are going for before making our moves. I agree with SalfordPaul, our owner has said additions will be made, Khaldoon has said it why can't people just wait and see.

But surely we've reached the stage where we need to sign a top player to improve the squad? Seems to me to be pointless to add an average player (eg. Sinclair) if they're not good enough to get enough game time to make a difference? This isn't being a spoilt brat as it is sometimes characterised, just being realistic about the calibre of player we now need to improve us.

It's difficult, we have a great team as everyone agrees, but if you just look at facts we didn't make it out of our group and we beat united to the league on goal difference. Whether or not this flattered united is up to you, and I understand we were in a tough group in the champions league, however, what is to stop that happening again? We could easily be in a group with PSG as the team from the fourth pot..?

No, we don't need a big name, but we probably do need someone/a couple who will take us forward in certain areas, and help us make the required step up.

We need to improve the squad if we are to retain the title, never mind the CL. I don't really care for the RVP's of Cavani's, in terms of I don't think we need them, it's defensive improvements we need.

Only 2 covers, in defense and midfield, and we are good to go.

I would not mind seeing Rekik, Boyata, Razak & Suarez given the chance as covers when we are short on players. This season seems ideal to introduce and integrate them in the team.

never seen any club win anythingh with the teenagers . when i watch real madrid i can't see anyone under 23 and even barcelona play youngster after they are at least 20 , and when abuse of their fantastic youngster they lose.

Last year was a strange year in that a poor United side got nearly 90 points.

They were poor as we twice displayed against them. They were even worse in Europe getting outplayed by sides they would have swept aside in the past.

One of the reasons they got so many points was the fact that Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and Liverpool were very poor last year. They will give United a stronger test this year. One I expect them to fail.

On the other hand, if our players don't rest on their laurels, we can be better this year. We have the monkey off our backs. We are champions. That should give the players a lift. Kun will get better, frightening thought. Nasri will be more influential. Hopefully Silva can have a rest now and then. We also have Tevez back, and an older and wiser!! Mario.

That's the team I'd play. Which means we would have in reserve

Edin, Balo, Nasri, Micah, Kolorov, Kolo, AJ, Milner, Savic

and that's before we even think about the youngsters.

The front three can barely be improved upon unless we buy Messi, and we've great reserves in that area.

It's the middle three that could be a problem. Only Milner and Razak in reserve. That is where we need to strengthen. And as many have mentioned DDR would be perfect.

In fact Javi Martinez and de Rossi would make this squad immense.

I would rate us ahead of Bayern as well.


Obviously some additions may improve our chances in the CL but there is never a guarantee, likewise I believe the current squad is good enough to win the CL though would rate Barca and Real ahead of us.

We have been so used to the excitement of signing good players that we tend to now take it for granted..I feel its that excitement 'buzz' that many are missing on here,hence the flapping...
Nowt wrong with it mind,each to their own. we still have a great team that was still gelling last year, Aguero, Balo and Nasri are going to shine bigtime this season and it seems that Tevez is well up for it too..

Lets not fret that we havent made major signings,The scum have had many years where no real major signings were made yet still did extremely well..Little tweaks here and there tbh rather than major overhaul.

Some under estimate just how much of an impact being champions can make. Every single player after the QPR game became a superior player.
This alone will be fantastic for next season.

I think we need a few players, a reserve CB who has alot of experience and someone like Sahin on loan would be perfect.

The point is to introduce them if we are ravaged by injuries and suspensions. We are talking about 2-4 matches in the league. Should not have that much of a negative impact if we play one youngster in such matches (remember when boyata was playing as a regular 2 seasons back; he did good overall)

More importantly, we need to play them in the 2 cups.
