do we now understand the Rags point of view?

They like a good death threat, don't they?

(I didn't make this, I just saw it)

Let's get a few facts in order, and put aside the rivaylry-

1) Liverpool were a tremendously successful team in the 70s and a fair part of the 80s. Their trophy haul was phenomenal, and thus they gained absolutely massive support all over the world (when TV was finally in every household and European nights were probably considered a lot more special). They achieved what we would like to achieve, and that (for us) will mean we gather more and more support from foreign lands too. Fans can't have it both ways.... if you want to be 'huge' you have to gather fans from outside of Manchester (and we have done, just not as many as Liverpool (yet))

2) What happened at Hillsborough COULD have been anybody. They had a large following, more so than many other clubs, and yes, of course they had their fair share of numpties (so do City and every other club in the land). It was an accident though. A whole bunch of seemingly minor factors contrived to create a large disaster - as is the nature of disasters. Even Duckinfield's ill-fated decision to open the gates was intended to help crown congestion. Sadly it didn't, it helped make it worse.
What the families of the 96 object to (and rightly so) isn't the mistakes that were made, but the attempt to hide those mistakes. Of course the mistakes needed to be illustrated, but it's the lies and coverup that came after that are appalling.
IF (God forbid) any of our families died in a tragedy like that, I'd like to think someone was still fighting the batter 25 years later to clear people's reputations and seek justice. Anybody who thinks 'it couldn't have happened to us' is wrong. The Taylor report should be read by EVERYONE to understand what happened that day, and they'll soon realise how many other stadiums had similar issues.
Hillsborough isn't about Liverpool fans, it's about football fans in general. On THAT day, it happened to be Liverpool fans who paid the price.

3) The cities of Manchester and Liverpool are inextricably intertwined and so similar. Anfield's an incredibly deprived area, and of course many of their fans are at the low end of the social spectrum. But so are many City fans. It's not a particularly attractive trait these days to be loud mouthed and aggressive at games, you just look a total dick, but we, like Liverpool, still have plenty in our ranks. Let's not kid ourselves that we are somehow better.

4) I too get irritated by many Liverpool fans who vehemently believe they are support a 'special' club. I've never believed City are 'special'. I just love them. They are MY team. But I've never believed we are more deserving or destined to be greater than anybody else. In fact, I think the vast majority of us don't know we're born.... try supporting Rochdale, or Bury, or Accrington Stanley for 50 years without a hope in hell of winning a thing. We are lucky, Liverpool fans are luckier still.
I don't like the way they refer to City as a 'small club', it's patronising.
BUT
There's so many on here that do precisely the same to other clubs that haven't been as fortunate as us. i.e. We do it too.

We got beat at the weekend by a fine Liverpool team. On another day it might have gone City's way. That's football. Maybe some decisions were iffy, but we've benefitted from iffy decisions in the past. We've won games we shouldn't have and lost games we should have won. Again, that's football.

The moment you start to refer to other fans as 'scouse ****' you lose any right to take offence at being called a 'manx ****'. It's futile and pathetic really, and we're supposed to be better than that aren't we?

And one final thing.... feel free to disagree if you must:

I wish WE would create an atmosphere like Anfield on Sunday. City's recent atmosphere has left a lot to be desired. It doesn't have to be aggressive, but a bit more support for our lads on the pitch might just make a difference. I think it helped Liverpool at the weekend, and we should be helping City with a lot more vocal support for the team rather than the moaning about petty rivalry.

That really is an excellent post - fair and well balanced - what it is doing in the midst of this rabid hatefest is anyone's guess.
Other than the bit about 'manx cunts'.
That wouldn't offend me at all, as I don't have three legs.

So what would you rather be a scouse **** or Jake the Peg?

Sorry to be pedantic here mate, but surely if I were bereft of the third Manx leg, then I would still technically be a biped, or 'normal' to use another term, rather than a limb-wise numerically-challenged monoped?
Having only one leg or being a scouser does present more of a dilemma.
I think that, all things considered, I would rather be a two-legged scouser than a one-legged Manc, as I could still support City and have elocution lessons to remove any tell-tale traces of Miseryside from my speech.

What a load of bollocks.
Anyone who thinks Liverpool are on a par with the rags really needs to have a quiet word with themselves.

Had a quiet word. Agreed with my initial post.

Clearly you didn't make it. It's made by rags feeling sorry for themselves just as we are starting to do now.

What happened at Hillsborough COULD have been anybody

Let's not forget. One of the reasons this could have happened to anybody is because a good number of fans were turning up to these games pissed up with no tickets. Shit loads do it now.

So you seriously consider that a team from another city 30 odd miles away are as bad as our bitterest local rivals for over 100 years?
That's an interesting take on things.
Personally, the day any team rivals the rags in my loathing is the day I send my seasoncard back.
