There are many gratification theories about why people watch certain types of tv programmes and the of the main reasons is escapism. The world is full of 'Jo-Average' (male and female), who stay in especially to watch East Enders, who belly laugh at Miranda and who cream themselves at the sight of Z listers trying to Tango.
The world is also full of those of us who watch tv to learn something and be challenged. Including comedy programmes.
