Do you support the RMT?

The fascist government are ploughing billions into P&O who sacked practically their entire workforce and now paying agency staff £5 an hour whilst trying to wriggle out of any human rights legislation. So sorting out this dispute is money down the back of the sofa as is the NHS doctor and nurses. Disgusting.

Difficult as the Tories have chosen the railway unions to make their stance, and as there’s profit it in for the networks, by way of the countries people, it suits their agenda.

Said many months back that this would get screwed, hopefully nobody affected by this has even a thought of voting Tory.
I'm concerned we won't get get the threshold for a reballot like the nurses.

The reason I worry is because out of the members to be balloted the majority are station/booking office staff and many of them in my TOC have applied for the piss poor voluntary severance against the wishes of reps.

I personally want to see a week of strike dates put on. However, I feel the NEC might be looking for us to accept a shit deal rather than face the embarrassment of a lost threshold ballot.

other words, you could have the poor pay increase if thousands of us are made redundant and you allow us to rip up everything we have negotiated and agreed in the past.

We will not

All members involved in the dispute to take strike action and NOT TO BOOK ON for any shifts between:

  • 0001 and 2359 hrs on Saturday 26th August 2023
  • 0001 and 2359 hrs on Saturday 2nd September 2023

I ask you again to stand firm, take the action, keep campaigning and see our dispute through.

Yours sincerely

Michael Lynch

General Secretary

That's me fucked for the Fulham match. :(

All in a good cause though.

How come they generally target weekends now and not week days?

Seems a risky game going forward. I feel like train travel has become unacceptably unreliable and expensive to be worth using now.

Better to drive, get a coach or even sometimes fly.

Because it's now the busiest day of the week as commuter travel has dropped off with WFH culture.
And it means the employees in supervisory and management grades covering front line roles are inconvenienced by being forced by senior management to work Saturdays.

How come prices haven't reflected that then? Peak time fares are still on week days.

Perhaps because since privatisation, the railways, (and the buses), have been run on a profit-making basis, not as a low-cost service for the public, with profits syphoned off to the shareholders who, in many cases, are not even based in this country. A fucking diabolical shambles.
