Do you support the RMT?

Seriously mate, how many kids actually get a train to school?

At my primary and secondary school nobody I knew got a train and I am pretty certain the overwhelming majority of school kids are at most a bus ride away from their school. My best mate actually moved house so he would fall under a schools catchment area, his kids were then a bus ride away.

Sorry …dupe post

My mate works for London Underground- works in the control room- gets 80k plus bonus
The last strike TFL staged a freedom of information request was put in and they had to reveal the pay bands above 50 grand, the highest pay grade was £59000 no bonuses, so your mate has done well for himself.

As he been there years as he may be on an older band, Public sector has to review and at times reduve them, but long time staff don't get dropped down.

The control room is a very important job so I don't begrudge a decent wage for anyone in it.

Yet a co pilot with EasyJet after paying over £130k for his own training and in an incredibly difficult and stressful job gets about £32k

Easyjet pilots pay go from £32k - £142k depending on experience and planes they are flying

Drivers are not striking, and if the guards are in the RMT and the union has a majority vote for strike action then whether they are affected or not any RMT memebers regardless of position or pay ahould not cross a picket line.

I am a manager and union member, when the staff go out on strike so do I and so should any manager or director who is in aunion.

You in the striking union then you strike together as brothers and sisters, scabs can get fucked
I understand that, i just don't understand who the lower paid are and what they earn

I had planned to get the train to Penzance on Tuesday coming back on Thursday but thanks to the planned strikes I have cancelled my trip

I back the RMT 100%

Do you?
No, but with a heavy heart.
Normally I would but this will be yet another thing used by this sham of a government and their millionaire media supporters to drive division in this country. It’s the only weapon they’ve got left and they will shamelessly use it as their only tactic from now until 2024 and, sadly, it’s the one tactic that might see them re-elected.

The reality is that those on a higher earnings will probably not want to strike but will be doing it to support all the cleaners, etc, who are approx £18 grand.

Network Rail and the train operating companies have subjected their staff to multiyear pay freezes and plan to cut thousands of jobs which will make the railways unsafe.

Despite intense talks with the rail bosses, RMT has not been able to secure a pay proposal nor a guarantee of no compulsory redundancies.

There is proposals to close all ticket offices nationally and reduce platform staff at bigger stations with compulsory redundency.

Wages depend on opperator with some staff on wages ranging from £18000 - £45000.

London underground are still disputing the pay rise and pension deal and is a seperate strike issue than the national rail services

I’ve no issue with the strike action itself. That’s for members to decide. Should have been done after exams.

I don’t like your assumption that only private school kids go on train. That’s not only bollocks it’s also a little bit snide.

That's from my own experience of the region I live in. This was compounded by the Covid timetable where the services were reduced by 50%. Trains which key workers used to go to work were cut. However a phone call from a Tory MP managed to organise a special train service that ran express so his son and other kids could attend private school there and not wait an hour for the timetabled service coming back. Just goes to show it's who you know.

Amazing that a national strike is called and all of a sudden Tories are screaming "What about the children!" When they were happy to send them to infect each other and everyone else during the pandemic.
