Economic illiteracy. Hard to know where to start with that.

It's not even Tory policy, which is growing a high wage economy.

Tories stated policy. How is this goal of a high wage economy compatible with fire and rehire?

What’s stopping them firing these workers anyway? We’ll see how this concludes, but I doubt it will be anytime soon.

In comparison to shipworkers, current legislation and stricter regulations.

Also a lot more of them.

It’s a battle of optics at the moment, Tories could push through compulsary redundancies and as long as it complies with law there isn't anything to stop them.

But it won't make for a smooth transition from current service to the new model.

An employer can legally dismiss striking workers for a breach of contract but it cannot pick and choose which ones to dismiss - it is either all or none.

TYpically employers do not dismiss striking employees as they are not feasible to replace quickly with adequately skilled alternative workers.

Thanks for the response. So if they could get alternative workers, they’d sack them all today, but as they haven’t, they can’t.

Could the Tories alter the immigration laws to bring in foreign workers to man the railways, for instance?

Tories can do whatever they want if they get Parliament to approve it.

However, allowing employers to dismiss tens of thousands of UK workers in an industry fundamental to the UK infrastucture to be replaced by foreign workers would seem somewhat counter to Brexit values.

This is bollocks. They are protected as long as the strike is above board.
