Does anybody know the rules

Be careful what you wish for. Referees having to go on camera every week and answer questions thought up by Sky and BT Sports? Who I'm sure would be completely impartial in what they choose to question them about. Far better to just have them on microphone so we can hear their thought processes.
They need to be micd up as well.

Not to mention their conversation with VAR needs to be audible to the stadium (Rugby Union/League/Cricket all do this without a problem) and the fans should be able to see on the big screen what they're looking at.

All you need to know is there are one set of rules for everyone else and another version for ourselves. They make it up as they go along.

Week after week the decisions are different. The dips tell the ref to fuck off in the Derby with no punishment. Today players get booked.
Everton wasted a huge amount of time at the etihad without punishment, Edderson is booked in the first half.
Total joke.
How Fernandes doesn’t get sent off every week for his constant fits in front of refs.

Pre VAR they would have frozen the frame and to a man everybody would have said it’s onside, he’s level

Why are they taking away completely good goals? That’s what everybody watches football for!!

they’ve created a monster!! VAR has evolved into something it wasn’t supposed to be where offside is concerned

I always go back to “clear and obvious error”, he wasn’t “clearly” offside it wasn’t an “obvious error” decision of penalty should have stood but will all know VAR is a bag-o-shit. Linesmen (or women) not giving obvious offsides and allowing play to continue is another fucking nonsense that’s going to result in needless injuries.

Back to the OP, too much variability in interpreting the rules by individual refs. That’s the problem to me, no one was thinking penalty last night except the ref. Is he pointing to the spot? He’s given a penalty. They retrospectively then say ah yeah that was a penalty. Fucking bonkers.

Doesn't the clear and obvious bit not apply to offsides? They are either on or off.

Strange thing is we heard all this crap about thicker lines being used and strikers getting more benefit etc.

Look at the photo the TV showed and you can see the white shoulder of the arsenal player behind Haaland so they must have been pretty much level / extremely tight. Anyone got a pic of the next frame of video after that freezing by any chance?

Saka told the linesman to fuck off about 2 mins after Jack got his booking tonight. Nothing given
It's this inconsistency that pisses me off. If all referees booked a player for swearing I wouldn't mind. I can even accept each match has to be reffereed differently but to have different standards in the same match is a joke.
That said, it is about the Premier League Product. In big games, keep 11 men on the pitch otherwise it spoils the spectacle. (See J. Milner dips v City last season)

As the title of thread says it’s a complete different set of rules from when I played
I see shirts being pulled all the time sometimes it’s a free kick other times no. Players taking over a minute to put ball back into play no problem others take 30 seconds and booked. Players being fouled but play on then loosing ball so we go back for a free kick but a different team loosing ball after a foul and it’s tough shit. It’s getting more frustrating every game because you never know what decisions will be given for anything that happens on the pitch and it doesn’t help when all the pundits just sit/stand like nodding donkeys agreeing with every decision made by ref. That’s just for starters and it’s driving me crazy
Watch a United game, pretend your a fan of them, see all them issues melt away.

Referees are allowed to hide away from any consequences that come from their poor decision making.

On the flip side to that, managers and players affected by their poor decisions are contractually obligated to have a microphone shoved in their face straight after the game and then get asked if the ref made a mistake, with the realisation that they can be fined for criticising the referee.

The referee never has to answer any question like that. There is no press conference to explain themselves. Make them answer to the camera every week.

And then the FA laughably tells us we need to respect referees more.
read somewhere that refs arent interviewed post match as people can use the reasons given in an appeal for sending off etc.
