Does Anyone actually rate Kolarov??

I still rate him. He was fine yesterday and offers more than most lb when attacking. Decent cb are required when he plays.
Indeed, pushed forward effectively yesterday, scored, put in some good crosses, and Richards did the same, and yet people are blaming him when he only did what he was told. The problem was that the gaps left by Richards and Kolarov were not filled by a defensive midfielder and a third-string central defence was overwhelmed. Absolutely no-one was complaining at 5-0, the reason being that wing-backs were being used effectively in scoring.
And no one is worried that Micah left Garcia exposed umpteen times.

I suspect that Pellegrini loves his crossing. And seeing as he's still around I suspect he think he can improve his defensive abilities.

I do rate him yup, he knows the game and ok he is not as fast as Clichy but he can get forward when needed to and can knock a ball in.

He was just under utilized by Mancini or not rotated/used enough/ right tactics etc

He works hard and that to me is still a very admirable trait and i will always struggle to not dislike a hard grafter.
Hence why Balo frustrated me all to often as we knew he had it in him, that is another story though.

tl;dr I rate him.

I am prepared for the death threats and physical abuse that my family shall now endure for posting this :D

He's wildly inconsistent, certainly, and often a terrifying liability at the back, but I subscribe to the theory that he has his uses against teams that will set up very defensively against us. His overlapping runs are generally very good, his delivery *can* be excellent (and is routinely better than Clichy's), and his set-pieces are a real threat.

Also, if we were to bring a new left-back in, I would want an upgrade on Clichy, not a backup player.

Would I want him as first choice left back? No.

Am I happy to have him as a back-up? Yes.

He offers something completely different to Clichy in that he can cross a ball and he can shoot, quite frankly, Clichy can do neither very well at all. So when playing teams who will park the bus and not look to commit too many men forward when attacking he's great, stick him out on the left, roll the ball in front of him and let him smash it into the box. We've got Negredo, Dzeko and Aguero who are good poachers and with the pace he puts on the ball, own goals and failed clearances are a real possibility too.

That said, in most games; the majority of away games and home games against better sides, you need your left back to be solid defensively and despite not being quite as bad as some on here make out, he's still not great. So Clichy's the first choice and Kolarov's the back-up/alternative.

The question then becomes, is he happy with that role? It'll probably only be 15 starts a season, so hardly regular football and in a world cup year players are really going to be focussing on match time. If he wants to leave for more game time then fair enough, but he leaves on our terms, we've no real need to sell so we're in a good position and don't have to accept a no-obligation loan from Juve.

I remember at one point during the Match Day discussion yesterday (I know... I know...) someone started going on about Garcia being out of position when he was explicitly covering for Richards. I'm not saying that Garcia is a worldbeater or anything of the sort, but there is a consistent effort to apply double-standards at times on here.
