Does anyone remember the time when everyone wasn’t obsessed about dogs

There is a woman, I say woman in loose terms, that has Chihuahua (sp) yappy type thing, not much bigger than a rat in all honesty and would probably kill anyone of mine as they would choke on it....and she takes it for a walk in a dolls pram. it's completely embarrasing both for her and the dog although I doubt the dog gives a shit tbh. I often wonder why and how she feels when walking and seeing other normal people doing normal things with their normal dogs. Each to their own I suppose.

I would imagine a lot of this animal madness has a link to the decline in mental health support/ services. As you say it doesn't seem normal or sane. Saw a story today about a pig was kept in a flat and it was obese. Nobody in the right mind would keep a pig and feed it junk food . One of my original points was about global co2 emissions and how we are being asked to eat less meat . For every good pet owner/breeder there will probably many who are not . I don't think a sensible person would eat less meat so we can produce and transport food and other crap for dogs .

When i lost my old cat eleven yrs ago ( time flies ) i went batty for a year , got so depressed i just about gave up , having her for twenty one years was amazing but losing her was unbearable , i have lived alone for a long time but never felt lonely till then , i was a mess. People think cats give you nothing but they really do , some are on you all the time , some are more aloof , that is what makes them fun

Love having a dog and love talking about her. Every time you interact about a dog its typically a positive interaction. Discussing your dogs idiosyncrasies and behaviours with like minded people is most enjoyable rather than the usual groans about the weather/inflation/work etc.

For mental health and to live a healthy life, being in nature, enjoying sunshine, exercising, disconnecting from the world/problems are four important traits and a dog really helps people to achieve that.

This is a cracking post and in a few years I have no doubt I will get a dog . But it also shows you how the human race has evolved. There is so many people who would give to animal charity's but not any for humans. Many People now think more of pets and interactions are more with them or about them when they do talk to a human in the real world.

Is this a new thing? I never had a dog growing up but I was definitely the odd one out in that respect. Everybody always went on about how brilliant they were to me but I was never sold on the idea.

That’s until I met my wife who loves dogs so now we have one. He’s a daft fucker and I have a love/hate relationship with him because he’s affectionate but also appears hellbent on trying to kill himself by eating things he shouldn’t or running into fence posts and giving himself 4 inch long lacerations (without seemingly even noticing). I doubt he’d survive half a day in the wild.

It’s weird, I thought I’d probably enjoy having a dog but I didn’t think I would get emotionally attached to it. But now I have him I’d be crushed if anything happened to him, he is a part of the family (and it’s nice to have something lower in the household food chain than me). I’ve concluded that I’ve gone soft in recent years, but I’m starting to realise that might not be a bad thing given the hard-nosed bastard I was before.
