Dominating games/wide open defence

Why are we so easy to play against?

Spurs and Liverpool have had us. Bournemouth and Newcastle could and should have made things a lot lot lot harder than they did with the chances they were able to create.

Been a while since we piled on the pressure for 90 minutes straight. We don't seem able to keep the ball for any period of time and when we do its passes between our defensive players and Joe Hart.

Liverpool tonight had attack after attack and every time they came forward they genuinely looked like they might score.

Why's that happening? More to the point, why's it happening so often?

We are no longer a team to be feared at the etihad. We might well manage a few big wins, but going back to 11/12 when we were unbeaten at home and we were difficult to play against we've fallen a mile and we're showing no signs of stopping.

We can hardly pick a pass at times. Teams work harder than us and our superior talent only works against some sides. Our home form has been rubbish for ages now. We have lost more points at home already than in both of our title winning seasons.

fear factor that united/chelsea DESERVEDLY earned at their own home grounds, and one that many felt we had, is not there at all..

When mancini was here he had a very simple formula.. win (At very worst only draw 2/3) all home games.. and draw the away games at all your rivals - with a few wins in there too (6-1)..

Pellegrinis arrogant stance of playing every game the same way, means we are very similar home or away..
Open, awful and very nervous against a counter attack, despite dominant possession, means its hard to see a way out of conceding from every attack we face,
Its the one thing that all top teams must face, how to determine the difference between home and away games, and win either way,

Unfortunately, with this fool in charge, we will be too naive to ever be dominant at home again,
Sure a few 5 and 6 goal wins against also rans like B'mouth and N'castle, but norwich should have got a point, and Liverpool have just bent us over for 3..

I believe we commit too many players forward, the fullbacks play so high that when we lose possession the opposition have so much room to play. The counter attack is always on and as we saw again last night we are consistently in trouble. Continuo,Firminho,Llalana had acres of space to play in and they are very good players who will and did hurt us.

It's not hard to work out how to play against us,defend deep and counter attack, chances will come. It always gives teams a chance and some teams do take advantage as we have seen.

Why the fuck the full backs need to be so far up with the talent we have is strange now that we have been found out, we should use them to get the ball back and stop the opposition breaking.
Even when we have won games we have given far too many opportunities away for them to score.
As good as the Sevilla game was, they could of gotten something out of the game.

We are a different team when Vinny is out at the back
Especially when he also removes the cover in front of the defence and plays Toure. 4 out of 5 of our midfielders were attackers. It's not surprising that they're not too good at defending. Pellegrini needs to make the big decision and rotate Toure with the other attacking midfielders, but he doesn't seem to have the balls to do it. As good as Toure is, we play much better without him in CM. Even Vinny has looked shocking at the back when Toure's in front of him.

Huge part of the problem, we've been well and truly sussed out on this front IMO. Too many of our first eleven seem to be happy to skate by on reputation alone, I cant stand to watch us amble about the way we did that first half while the scouse buzzed around us like flies causing us all sorts of issues.

A lot of it comes down to motivation for me....we have a manager that talks a good game and players that talk a good game, but time after time they fail to put the simple hard work in that it takes to win football matches, seemingly reliant on moments of individual brilliance (lets face it, it could have been 8 fucking nil if not for Joe and a Kun worldie). Thats on MP as the leader of the squad.

I was jealous of the dips today, watching their manager gee them up and motivate the piss out of inferior personnel while in the other dugout, it looked like Manuel would struggle to fog a fucking mirror.

Injuries to our first choice centre back pairing plus the integration of a new centre half might well answer all those questions and even some you haven't asked yet!

Not even read the rest of this thread, but considering that today we started with Manga and Demichelis tells me that the issues begin and end with player fitness/team selection.
