I didn’t find it that much different to Neil giving his opinion on this week (which I’m gutted the BBC hasn’t brought back) or politics live. I just don’t think newsnight is the best forum to do it.

Kuensberg gets on my tits frequently, but I suppose that my idea of the middle is slightly further left than where she (perhaps quite genuinely) believes it to be. It's very hard to walk that tightrope of genuine neutrality - the nearest are probably andrew Neil and Paxman, but they are neutral by just being cunts to everyone.The problem for the government is that when you say ‘people will have to make their own minds up’ they can’t really complain when they do.
The problem for Newsnight is that the BBC has a specific remit and charter and cannot indulge in political judgments. As a leader column in a daily paper there could be no objection to what Maitlis said, but it’s offside on the Beeb. Completely agree that it’s their watchdog’s job to say whether she was offside or not.
Sometimes I think Laura Kuensberg strays over the line. Apparently the Beeb disagrees.

It’s a bit worrying if journalists/editors are losing their jobs from a state broadcaster because they are critical of the government.
Seems a bit rich to question her impartiality whilst continuing to employ Andrew Neil who is chairman of the Spectator, which is hardly a bastion of balanced reporting
