I think Kim has a desire for NK to be elevated on the world stage through the acquisition of nuclear arms technology. I think the citizens of NK still believe they are at war with the USA, as they are told, and believe it is the strong leadership of the Grand Leader (and his forebears) that keeps the Evil Empire (USA) at bay.

I believe that he believes that once he acquires the ability to deliver nukes to Seoul, Japan and the US mainland, his safety and security is virtually ensured, and normalcy will resume on a playing field of his choosing. This will mean great things for the NK state...and may even trickle down to his people, although I wouldn't bet on it! His family has done very well by insisting they are still in a war with the USA.

I think what you write probably has much truth about it. But is the Trump way of countering this really the best way? Am not so sure. Wasn't there a James Bond
film in which a media mogul promoted war in order to increase ratings? This seems more like Trumps way of going about things - in fairness, it might be said that he's
actually pretty good at it. Whether this is a good or bad idea for humanity as a whole, is perhaps a different matter.
ps in this context I find it astonishing that people believe that Trump is anti-establishment. Especially given his nice little boost in the military budget. I forget which of your past presidents spoke of the military-industrial complex but...

Trump is all about increasing his brand and lining his pockets, all while stroking his narcissistic ego. It is that last part that scares us all!

I wish I could tell you with any certainly that Trump will not do anything stupid. However, his words to his own Secretary of State should scare anyone. Only he knows what he will and will not do, and even he doesn't know until he is sitting on his shitter every morning, with iPhone in hand, Twitter open!

To say he disgusts me and scares me would be a massive understatement.

Yep, and it is perhaps ironic that it is possible that there are those in the US military that are willing to - and could - stop him going to war. Is curious...in the last couple of days I have read the words of the general you have in Puerto Rico - he comes across as much less partisan, than pro-humanity. There has also been a thread hereon BM along the lines of 'would you serve in the military' - in this it became apparent that that there are many that have - and do - serve in the military that are like 'yes, we will serve but, at the same time, we are those that truly recognise that war is not such a great idea..' I respect this and hope that it holds sway.

We all hope Mattis, McMaster and Kelly will save us from Trump!
