the film? Tomorrow never dies...
Eisenhower:

A vital element in keeping the peace is our military establishment. Our arms must be mighty, ready for instant action, so that no potential aggressor may be tempted to risk his own destruction...

This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence—economic, political, even spiritual—is felt in every city, every statehouse, every office of the federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications. Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society. In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the military–industrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists, and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes. We should take nothing for granted. Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals so that security and liberty may prosper together.

Interesting post. You wonder quite how long the military industrial complex would last if those at the top had to live through the brutality of fighting beyond a fantasy
of being 'a warrior by proxy.'

A question to any Bluemooners who have served in the military. How would you feel if you had to salute the draft-dodging, gold-star family abusing, POW insulting Trump? He doesn't seem to have a single character trait that would be respected by the military. I see those Marines saluting him every day and MY skin crawls. God knows what they feel like .....

I joined under Thatcher (The beginning of her reign) but where Trump is concerned he was voted in and good or bad he's their commander in chief. I saluted people I didn't like because chain of command is everything and if it isn't present or deteriorates you'd end up with an ineffectual fighting unit. There's an old saying that encapsulates this better than I can put it from Lord Tennysons poem The Charge Of The Light Brigade and now used by squaddies and servicemen in common parlance.

Theirs not to make reply
Theirs not to reason why
Theirs but to do & die

Being a serviceman or woman means you're steeped in tradition and liking or disliking your commander in chief doesn't come into it.

Trump is all about increasing his brand and lining his pockets, all while stroking his narcissistic ego. It is that last part that scares us all!

I wish I could tell you with any certainly that Trump will not do anything stupid. However, his words to his own Secretary of State should scare anyone. Only he knows what he will and will not do, and even he doesn't know until he is sitting on his shitter every morning, with iPhone in hand, Twitter open!

To say he disgusts me and scares me would be a massive understatement.

He's been balls out stupid his whole life. Since he took office there hasn't been one single day he hasn't shown what a moron he is.

There is also no way he had the intellect to gain a college degree. His father bought it, or he cheated.

I feel sorry for Americans who see this manchild destroy their countries credibility. But, I feel more sorry for the rest of the world held hostage by a lunatic moron.

The next Demicratic election campaign must be titled

Make America Sane Again.
